I'm distressed that it's not the way it used to be but at he same time realize that's a foolish thing to say. Nowhere is the way it used to be. Since coming to Canada I have travelled to Britain 15 times and on the last 10 occasions didn't visit one relative. Just wanted to see the country the way I hadn't done before I left. The scenery is wonderful, history magical and the people superb. Didn't experience any crime but also realize that I, like most people, do not get a true/full perspective when on vacation. Hi PP, that's good new's that your mum should be able to get better on her own. I'm sure we all wish her well in her recovery.

Oh Piff, that's excellent news...well just the good news you need to feel a little easier over here any road! Here's hoping she's on the mend each day - now you will have to wave those airline tickets in front of her so she has no choice of where she's going this year - but here to see you, hubs & grand-daughter!!

It's not always what you say (write), it's how you say (write) it. Anyone with a degree of intelligence realizes that opinions differ, sometimes greatly, and that's a good thing, but to write with bitterness against the Canadian way suggests that the rest of us have no idea what we're doing by being here.

you see this is my point, you are on the offensive and i cannot see the need. the intimation is that people who disagree with you do not have a degree of intelligence, and they should tip toe around you for fear of attack. you seem quite insecure if you feel that your whole way of life is put into question by one person commenting that they do not like something which you may. i would suggest it is more sensible to simply let ruby or whomever else it may be pass comment, and then you share your experience, instead of making veiled or outright insults.

I think it is too. It also shows that it's hard to gauge how your posts will appear on here. Brian didn't intend his posts to be anti UK but they seemed so to me. So, similarly, posts, that criticise an aspect of Canada will seem harsher than intended.

Does that make sense?

Very much so.

I used to get really upset at people complaining about different aspects of Canada.

I now realise that we all have different view points and come from a myriad of different backgrounds, therefore what I like is not necessarily going to be fine for everyone or even anyone else.

Canada has been fantastic for me but that is not necessarily the case for all. As hard as that is for me to accept sometimes.;)

Of course it does. But that's no fun. Let's have a proper argy-bargy on here if you don't mind.

Hmmmm. He's a former scouser for one. Or we could try a bit of ageism. He also claims to be the only Liberal voter in Calgary, I'm sure he must be dead stuck up like about that, or summat.

Edit: din-dins. Later.

we arent so young either, so best lay off the old fogey thing. Though he seems to like being an old fart. Maybe BrianScottie and Steve P can have a competition for old fartedness.

What would the criteria be?

I agree with that too. I think the issue is that some posters blame Canada the country for all the bad luck they experience, rather than the particular issues. It's human nature, I suppose. But we've all been through hard times - emigrating is probably the most traumatic experience anyone could willingly do to themselves!

I deleted my post then saw that you had replied.

If you look back at that thread you will see that I sympathised with you more than once. I wasn't picking on you. If you see it that way then I am sorry. I was arguing with Yogi bear not you.

Sorry, I really was stuck in the middle of some sort of horror thing going on here and was really stressed out. To feel under attack in your own home is hideous it should be a safe haven but hasn't been it has been our prison. It got so bad the kids couldn't even play in the back garden due to fireworks being thrown. I guess when I started the post I hadn't banked on the way it would escalate out of control and I'm genuinely sorry that I took your posts the wrong way. I can't even remember what it was that got my goat now and honestly haven't got the energy to go back and check but I think I was just feeling more than a little under attack on here as well. All I wanted to do was find some way of venting so that when I have a wobble (as I'm doing tonight) then I had something to go back to to read and remind me of this living hell. I am not normally bothered by what people say on forums, I've moderated enough in my time to not let it bother me but I did feel under attack on here, although I know a lot of people were also very supportive.

I am sorry it turned into such a big misunderstanding.

Just think, only 2 months until TWP and 6 months until you all fasten your seatbelts. There's a high probability that when you walk out of the terminal at Pearson International it will be in the 80's and the sun will be shining. If not, it will do so within a couple of days. You will get to where you'll be staying, have a barbeque or whatever and lots of laughing and, no doubt, some weeping. Canada, as you know, is not Utopia but from what I read in your posts it has to be better that what you and family go through at present. Hang in there, the best is yet to come,

It gets to us all, mine advised that she had booked her annual holiday wrong and its bang in the middle of when she was coming here, it ripped me, but you know what........

it couldnt be helped, letting her on a computer to book her own holiday...not a good idea :curse:

But we have sorted it and all i want now is to meet her at that airport and give her a big hug and her mix up means that i see her earlier than we thought :thumbsup:

Things happen, we all have good days and bad days, coming on here just helps us vent them bad ones sometimes

Me too.

One thing I found about moving here was that it took a while to settle down after the hassles of eggthrowing etc. We've been here 30 months, have just moved house and now I am finally beginning to relax here.

This is a good place to vent, so keep on venting.

You know what? One of the really good things about this forum is the support you get when you are feeling low and missing family and stuff - yeah you quite often get a load of crap too but there is always someone that has been through it or going through it.

There is very little that I miss tbh.

OK so some days I do miss things like being able to order the groceries from Tesco's and have them deliver it in the 2 hour timeslot I choose.
I occasionally miss decent back bacon or other foods
And TV without loads of adverts

But tbh most of the time I don't even think about that... I am quite happy here
