Well at least you have figured out why all these people want to move to Canada, the service is out of this world!!

Please don't get me started on customer service. That's a truly hot issue with me. Actually customer service in Canada is quite good and IMO considerably better than in UK. Having said that, much improvement still needed.

I disagree with that. I have found it to be polite but ineffective. Nothing happens, nothing can be done and everyone smiles about it.

I sound bitter purely because I'm powerless in being able to move back home due to my OH and the housing price crash/recession here and it's like I'm being forced to stay here.

Sounds as though you are stuck between a rock and a hard place Ruby:ohmy:

It must be really difficult when you and your OH aren't in agreement about moving back:frown:

Best of luck in sorting out your problems:)

I was chatting away to my mum yesterday (phone card, had 12 hours to talk only got 1.5 hr before it cut us off ) ..

Anyway, she was like, "i have sent you a food parcel", im thinking oh yeah, malt loaf, roast chic crisps, Knorr soup, mushy peas, dumpling mix ..

She told me what she had sent which was .. bless her ..

Doritos (lightly salted) .. Carr's water crackers and brandy snaps ..

I didnt have the heart to tell her that i prefer the crisps here, that i have in my cupboard Carr's pepper crackers, which are better than the plain ones .. BUT i had forgot just how much i had missed the brandy snaps (remember to buy some cream) so i will eat all of those immediately and not share with anyone ..
Hurry up postman ...

Ruby, I'm truly sorry to hear about your dilemma. Those of us who have been here any length of time know only too well how it feels to get that call, and the awful feeling if you don't get back in time. Trust me, I know only too well. Still, you can't get bitter at Canada for it. It sounds like you and your OH are really at odds over whether to go or stay and I hope you can find some middle ground. As someone else said, you really do seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Good luck to you, however it may work out. And the financial picture will improve, just hang in there.

you're not, i got accused of this the other day too, after i voiced some concerns, thoughts and experiences. this after all i contend, is the whole point of the forum. some though seem to have difficulty in accepting posts in this context, feel personally insulted and go on the offensive.

It's not always what you say (write), it's how you say (write) it. Anyone with a degree of intelligence realizes that opinions differ, sometimes greatly, and that's a good thing, but to write with bitterness against the Canadian way suggests that the rest of us have no idea what we're doing by being here.

With you there! The 1st completely unexpected phone call was bad - the second 6 months later was our worst nightmare........As you know my Mums not too well - cancelled plans for a spring break vacation, just in case, I just hope my Mum makes it out here once, just once.

It's something that everyone thinks about when they think of emigrating but until it happens that 1st time you don't really realise.

I'd suggest it’s more about measuring up to expectations, which are just as subjective as opinions

Some are higher, some are lower

and the end result will determine how you feel about the place

Me……set your sights low enough and Canada is a truly awesome place :p

You write quite scathingly about Britain, so let others criticise Canada if they need to. This site is a good place to vent off, it helps you get through a frustrating Canadian day.

Look...it's called giving a "balanced view"....I don't make these things up just to be awkward and stir up a load of codswallop!! I've had my frustrations in AB, ON & BC - from my perspective, it's a Canada-wide thing. I know the UK has many frustrations itself....but we are talking about us Expats are missing about the UK here on this thread - remember that!! I posted my two-penneth of what I miss about the UK compared to what's not to be found over here and look at the grief you give me! Sorry brianscottie....you can love every goddamn thing about Canada you want, but it ISN'T perfect and not Utopia!! The UK, despite it's negativity, does offer things that, hands down, pish on Canada!! I've said it before and I'll say it again...all those Brits in the throes of their immigration to here...you simply cannot expect to come here thinking it's going to solve all your problems by "escaping the UK and all it's crap" because Canada has it's own crap too! Hey, and even my bloody Canadian counsellor fed me that line yesterday too :p

Good post! Can't be PC all the time! ;) We are having to think about these things too. We are trying to get out of the UK but we know that Canada will also have it's own problems that will very likely tick us off, but that's life and no country is without problems!!

Karma for a great post!!
