Re: Missing the UK?
Well at least you have figured out why all these people want to move to Canada, the service is out of this world!!
Please don't get me started on customer service. That's a truly hot issue with me. Actually customer service in Canada is quite good and IMO considerably better than in UK. Having said that, much improvement still needed. |

There is still an awful lot here that I do love, and believe me, I doubt and double check myself every minute of the day if giving what I have up here and returning to my old life in the UK is what I really want to do permanently. Missing my parents & my sister who I'm so close with, and her kids has really affected me more since losing my father in law exactly one year ago. It was very traumatic to be over here and get "that phone call at 4am", struggling with the grief, arranging for the flight home, worrying about the money, etc..and it dawned on me that I don't think I could cope with another phone call like that. I would be an absolute basket case if it was for one of my family members. Only my decision to go back home wasn't as simple as that...my OH didn't want to entertain the idea of jacking everything in here so it's been a year of fights and arguments - a power struggle for Canada-v-UK. I sound bitter purely because I'm powerless in being able to move back home due to my OH and the housing price crash/recession here and it's like I'm being forced to stay here. It must be really difficult when you and your OH aren't in agreement about moving back:frown: Best of luck in sorting out your problems:) Jo |

Re: Missing the UK?
I was chatting away to my mum yesterday (phone card, had 12 hours to talk only got 1.5 hr before it cut us off ) ..
Anyway, she was like, "i have sent you a food parcel", im thinking oh yeah, malt loaf, roast chic crisps, Knorr soup, mushy peas, dumpling mix .. She told me what she had sent which was .. bless her .. Doritos (lightly salted) .. Carr's water crackers and brandy snaps .. I didnt have the heart to tell her that i prefer the crisps here, that i have in my cupboard Carr's pepper crackers, which are better than the plain ones .. BUT i had forgot just how much i had missed the brandy snaps (remember to buy some cream) so i will eat all of those immediately and not share with anyone .. Hurry up postman ... |

Aww Piff..cheers mate :wub: You're the only one this side of the Atlantic beside "W" & the kids that know what I've really gone through these past couple of years. It's hard enough trying to express your experiences, reasons and differences here on the B.E., but my homelife is also like living an Expats forum as you well know!! :( Thanks for sticking by me and supporting me...you have the patience of a saint and are my Agony Aunt in the flesh ;)
P.S. Luna loved yesterday...I hope she's dreaming of all that running now while she rests in her kennel following her operation today...just phoned the vets now and it went very well  Brianscottie....I know I probably do come across as sounding very bitter and anti-Canada, but I'm not totally. Thank you Rainey...it is sometimes hard to get my thoughts across without seeming bitter to everyone. It's the helplessness and being stuck without a way out that has turned me bitter and negative....I don't mean to be. Thanks for seeing through that

some though seem to have difficulty in accepting posts in this context, feel personally insulted and go on the offensive.
It's not always what you say (write), it's how you say (write) it. Anyone with a degree of intelligence realizes that opinions differ, sometimes greatly, and that's a good thing, but to write with bitterness against the Canadian way suggests that the rest of us have no idea what we're doing by being here. |

Aww Bless her I hope she's OK. When does she come home? Henry was too tired to dream last night, but he's been running in his sleep tonight It was very traumatic to be over here and get "that phone call at 4am", struggling with the grief, arranging for the flight home, worrying about the money, etc..and it dawned on me that I don't think I could cope with another phone call like that. It's something that everyone thinks about when they think of emigrating but until it happens that 1st time you don't really realise. |

Some are higher, some are lower and the end result will determine how you feel about the place Me……set your sights low enough and Canada is a truly awesome place :p |

Sorry brianscottie....you can love every goddamn thing about Canada you want, but it ISN'T perfect and not Utopia!! The UK, despite it's negativity, does offer things that, hands down, pish on Canada!! I've said it before and I'll say it again...all those Brits in the throes of their immigration to here...you simply cannot expect to come here thinking it's going to solve all your problems by "escaping the UK and all it's crap" because Canada has it's own crap too! Hey, and even my bloody Canadian counsellor fed me that line yesterday too :p
