Actually it's just Hockey.

Like calling soccer "field football"

I like to watch the leafs get all our hopes up right up until November, and then screw up the season over Xmas.

Now nowt? Not even Blackpool on TV? :@(

Just Premiership Field Football on Sultana!!!!

"Soccer" as a short form for "association football" gives cause for wry amusement in the supposedly classless sports clubs of the US and Canada. How many North Americans realise that they are perpetuating a slang term coined in the rarefied social heights of Rugby School and Oxford University in the 1880s (same formation as "rugger" for Rugby football), and re-invented by the likes of Eton- and Oxford-educated Johnners, along with Aggers, Blowers, Bearders, Tuffers, etc on Test Match Special?

And if it's "just hockey," why is the sport's governing body the International Ice Hockey Federation or IIHF?

The same as why is it FIFA and UEFA and of course the FA.
Typical Americans bastardizing our language to suit their needs
Now is it spelt programme or program? color or colour etc etc

Did you see the term 'iced' in there anywhere? No, of course you didn't.

People who say 'iced hockey' are infuriating but then that's the intention I suppose ...

"Iced hockey" is an expresssion specific to this board, I don't suppose I'd use it in real life, were there ever an occasion to mention iced hockey in real life. I expect I'd call it ice hockey. Still, not likely to crop up, is it? There not being any.

Actually it's not.

Like calling field hockey, hockey? or ball hockey, hockey?

Although most know what you mean by "hockey", ice hockey is the proper term

So sat in a bar, you turn to the guy next to you and say " did you see last nights Ice Hockey game"? Don't think so pal.

And it's not "Ice Hockey Night in Canada" no one says ice, iced or frosty hockey.
