And if it's "just hockey," why is the sport's governing body the International Ice Hockey Federation or IIHF?

"Soccer" as a short form for "association football" gives cause for wry amusement in the supposedly classless sports clubs of the US and Canada. How many North Americans realise that they are perpetuating a slang term coined in the rarefied social heights of Rugby School and Oxford University in the 1880s (same formation as "rugger" for Rugby football), and re-invented by the likes of Eton- and Oxford-educated Johnners, along with Aggers, Blowers, Bearders, Tuffers, etc on Test Match Special?

People who say 'iced hockey' are infuriating but then that's the intention I suppose ...

"Iced hockey" is an expresssion specific to this board, I don't suppose I'd use it in real life, were there ever an occasion to mention iced hockey in real life. I expect I'd call it ice hockey. Still, not likely to crop up, is it? There not being any.

And it's not "Ice Hockey Night in Canada" no one says ice, iced or frosty hockey.
