I think you know what they are getting at.
If you are in a 'profession', then Canada doesn't appear very welcoming from the stories your read on here.
(though I think the doctors in taxis stories are largely apocryphal)

I've had a few 'big' girls and several 'small' girls and I have to say that at the end of the night size really doesnt matter
I like the use of the word appear. Whilst I dont support the protectionism that exists here I firmly believe that IF you wish to pursue your profession it is more than possible.
Try moving from the 'eastern block' to the UK as an Oral Surgeon and see how easy it is to walk in to 'practice'.

The federal Government accepts someone for immigration because of their qualifications as doctors, engineers, etc. So these people immigrate to Canada only to find that their qualifications are not recognised by the trade body/college of the Province they've moved to, and now have
a) Find work to pay the bills.
b) Pass the relevant Provincial tests to be able to work in their field.
c) Both of the above.
Whose fault is it that the Doctor is not able to work as such? The Province, the Feds, or the Doctor?

I know of people with doctorate degrees (Not MDs) doing jobs they feel are beneath them, but some of the things they are looking for just don't exist in Canada or they are highly educated with little or no experience.

Ah yes, I read about these regularly.

Everybody who has a Phd is highly educated and will have been without experience at some point in their career. Not sure what your point is? That Canada is no good for newly qualified graduates?

Did he not look into getting everything sorted before he moved out here

Sorry but anyone can blame the country, stand up and get things sorted, if not move on
This is a time old debate on here, My OH was a manager in the uk, back to hands on here, plus had to take an exam to prove that he knew what he had been doing for years in the uk.
Why does he have to do this, because people move here from all over the world, some people actually pay to get there qualifications in certain countrys, so what they decided was that everyone has to prove that they know what they are doing, standard throughout..................
We knew this before we came, OH passed his exam, so have many others
OMG there is so many quotes regarding people moving to the uk, 20+ living in one room as there is no place to live, people on the streets as there dreams are shattered, what are the uk doing about it...........
Maybe if i could be bothered to goto other parts of the forum i would get even more..............
As we say same sh1t, different country

I had to get a licence for my profession to be able to work in Ontario but that's the only Province it's valid in. If I were to move to another province, I'd have to get another licence there.
These licence rules are the same ones a born-Canadian, immigrant and anyone else in Canada has to follow, so I'd suggest it would be the Doctor's responsibility to verify their qualifications with the relevent Provincial body. I know I checked mine before I applied for a Work Permit.

I disagree. I also believe it'll never happen anyway. The Feds are interested in controlling immigration to Canada but the rules governing trade qualifications are set by the Provinces in an apparent attempt to give Canadians a better opportunity in those jobs.

I don't really care that much as I'm not in a profession that is regulated in that way - but inconsistencies across government bodies are not a good thing whatever the historical precedent. I do happen to think some of Canada's professional bodies act in a way that protects their members incomes rather than their members professional standards - (as has been discussed many times on here)
Getting a foot into a profession is likely to be the biggest stumbling block but then, in certain professions, that is likely to be the same wherever in the World one is.
