Their is work out there - 44000 jobs on jobbank.ca, load of work on kajiji, and workopolis is amass with work. But Service Canada wont let me lift so much as a broom because my work permit is site specific. And the LMO stuff is just typical of this shyte hole.
I just cant get my head round the stupid legislation that is alienating and forcing immigrants to scavenge for coke cans and bottles so they have enough to but a burger. Fer fek's sake dont the idiots at Service Canada realise we are in the 20th century? Help the foreign workers, not make life so hard thay have to resort to asking people for money on the streets.

The problem isnt that they have to be reassessed, its that there are so few opportunity for Drs to requalify, there simply are not nearly enough spaces on the supervised intern programs for non canadian grads to even have a fighting chance.
Engineering bodies have made life a little easier, and have at least acnowledged and addressed the old catch 22 that you couldnt get a job as a licensed engineer without having canadian work expereince first.
But what amazes me is that any professional would come to canada unaware of the lay of the land here, the requirement are all know, so those PhDs etc driving cabs must know the odds when they board the plane.
Besides, if you have a PhD in History or Anthropology, other than teaching future historians and anthropologists there is a good chance that thats all its good for anyway. It stuck me during my time as a post grad that many students were there going through the motions killing time until they had to face the harsh reality of life outside school too...

Phone them and ask about your options. The ones I've spoke to have always been very helpful.

This is also where network..network really works
We arrived on TWP and we know that he could be out like anybody else, that is why we never went for the high paid job etc etc and his employer seemed good.
Also if you start a thread and maybe tell people where you are, what you job line is, MAYBE someone could connect you.
Coming on here saying canada is the fault wont wash, if you was in the uk on a TWP and lost your job, well you would be in the same boat

At last - here I was thinking I am the only one with a problem with Canada. If you are a temporary foreign worker like me, right now - you are screwed. [QUOTE]
Same thing in NZ too. It's the recession. I hope you find something soon.

And would you believe I heard there is even a recession the UK!! My husband is a Canadian and he is out of work, has been since October 2008, he has applied for all kinds of positions, and at the point he will consider anything but he's not had much luck. On the other hand, I am not yet even a landed immigrant, but I am a foreign temporary worker and I have managed to find temporary work! It isn't Canada's fault that you are in the position you're in!

What a load of insensitive wankers. Why not kick a man when he's down? Still if it makes you feel good then carry on, why worry about someone's feelings

I'm not blaming Canada for the crap I'm in - it's the ridiculous legislation that Service Canada is inventing thats making it impossible to get a job.
And I repeat, Canadians are a fair bunch overall. I always found them to be polite, no problem. It's just the damm minority in important jobs that act like grey cells have gone out of fashion that piss me off.
If you change the way the LMO works, e.g.
Have one LMO for one type of industry instead of just one firm, then another LMO to cover hospitality jobs and so forth, it would be far easier and cheaper to pay people E.I for god knows however many months they are out of work.
But you know what, I am getting E.I for 40 weeks and I dont even have to get out of bed to receive it. Okay, it's not quite what I was getting at my old firm but if they want to play the game, then f**k it, lets play.
I wonder how many Canadians would say, "give him a job just to get him off E.I and stop poncing off the government".
But while us us immigrants have to pay $150 each time we need an LMO, then of course Service Canada will be laughing at us. After all, we are just dumb immigrants who know jack shit.
Remember the 2005/7 boom when Service Canada were giving away work permits like lollipops? They couldnt get enough Asians and Chinese to fill menial jobs - now the country has gone tits up, they are treated like shit.

Oh c'mon FM, I know at least three posters on here who have lost jobs, partners, are worried were the next buck is coming from etc and they arent on here looking for sympathy 24/7. And isnt it odd that CC disappears just as this 'joker' appears?
