I have a 14 year old and a 12 year old... neither have TVs or computers in their bedrooms, and their smartphones MUST be left downstairs at night when they go up to bed.

They survive.

Fair enough. My phone gets switched off as soon as I hit the sack anyways.

That's superb.

Children with some boundaries and discipline are happier adults imho

Jings' rules are fair, and that's great. But children who are allowed to drive their own education naturally learn what is right and wrong, what is best for them. Those children become happier, free-thinking adults.

Excellent fred drifting from smartphones to a teenage boys love life to kids these days....

On the last subject, I've met Jing's family & they seemed perfectly charming and well adjusted kids. Although my own are rather younger (2 & 5) they wont be getting their own devices until we think they are good and ready and they will absolutely not be having them in their rooms. My dread is the experience we had last year going out for a meal with friends where 6 assorted preteens and actual teens sat at a table in a restaurant for 2 hrs engrossed in their devices and not communicating verbally at all.

Sally, when do you start the BE awards thingy and is there an "ultimate thread drift" one? If so I nominate this.

I'd call that a result.

Mine aren't actually allowed out of the house... you met the stunt-doubles that we borrow from the nice Christian family down the road whenever we have to appear presentable.
