I was born a Muslim and lived all my life as a follower of Islam.
After the barbaric terrorist attacks done by the hands of my fellow Muslims everywhere on this globe, and after the too many violent acts by Islamists in many parts of the world, I feel responsible as a Muslim and as a human being to speak out and tell the truth to protect the world and Muslims as well from a coming catastrophe and war of civilizations.

The subtext in the question is "why post a ******g long quotation with no explanation about who the author is or any personal views on the content?". ;)

So Dr Tawfik Hamid is probably now walking around with a target on his back and will need a security detail.

In the same theme as his letter (if he's for real) I didn't notice huge participation from the Muslim community in today's French demonstrations. Only caught bits of it on TV, but given that 8% of French are Muslim, why were there not mass "not in our name" demonstrations? Plenty of individuals commiserating and saddened, even angry, but their community needs to mobilise and try to crush the fundamentalist ideology.

Almost 4 million turn out for unity rally.

Almost four million turn out for unity rallies across France | euronews, world news

The turnout appears to have broken the previous record for the largest ever rally in France in modern times: the liberation of Paris after World War Two.

Good grief. They were at the big rally, not holding competing demonstrations. If you only caught a bit of it I'm not surprised you missed a lot. I was going to give you the whip here but erased it - my frustration isn't constructive.

They spoke with several Muslims/Islams who were at the rally in support of the protests and vigil, on the radio news, as u would exspect there would have been plenty there

No need to compete, just to join in and make their presence obvious. Public protest from the moderates is essential if their "this isn't Islam" line isn't to ring hollow.

I don't really understand why people should have to apologize for things they didn't do. Both sides try to make people feel this way: from your tumblrina sjw to your fox news pundit. I must admit that I'm supprised to see shard doing it here.

I don't want them to apologise at all. That would be awful. Of course moderates are not responsible for terrorist events but the atrocities are being committed in the name of their faith. Instead of constantly bleeting that it's not their idea of Islam, I want moderates to exert a bit more pressure on other followers of their faith, those that they regard as misguided, to stop. Undermine their efforts.

It's not like the fundamentalist element is shrinking, it's growing, even within Europe. Moderate muslims are getting sucked into it; non-muslims are getting sucked in to it. Moderates can weaken the power structures of their extremist factions, as they have greater knowledge and access than non-muslims.

Would you apply the same criteria to American mainstream Christians towards the lunatic fringe Christian Right in their own country?

Thought not.

Who said they should apologise? Huh !!!

I think if the moderate Islamic followers condemned the actions of the few, then maybe the small % of extremists would think twice about shouting out "Allah is great" and think WTF they are doing, before they shoot next time.

Same as they try to bring in a ban on Automatic weapons in the US after the shootings there. (Meaning an attempt is being made to stem the killing)
