Re: Fears
Spiders! And bears- or to be more accurate being mauled by bears, or cougars or wolves...

Re: Fears
Can't help it but bears terrify me. I really do belive that the entire bear population are salivating in advance of our arrival. I could attempt to defend the family from a big dog, but what the devil can I do about a bear? OH genuinely believes I'm joking, but I really am not and I find myself worrying about it.

Re: Fears
This 2 minute rule is the worst piece of advice I have ever been given!

I told my ex wife that last time we were there. After 90 seconds I told her it was 2 minutes. I buried her 5 days later and had to cancel my golf reservation.

That's dreadful...I trust Mrs FL doesn't read BE! I've already got the bear bell! I've been brandishing it like a mascot of late. The wildlife of Canada will all need earmuffs.

Re: Fears
I have a strange fear about swimming in Lake Ontario (even though I love swimming in other bodies of water). I suppose this dates back to my childhood seeing all of the guck and the dead fish floating in Toronto harbour. Even though the lake is much cleaner than it used to be and many beaches along the waterfront are supposedly safe to swim, I just can't do it. My wife took my daughter to Cobourg beach the other day, which is supposedly nice and clean, but I was glad I had to work because if I went, there's no way I would be going in the water.

I'm not a big fan of heights, probably because I'm 6' 4" Seriously though, really don't like going up ladders / trees.
Some amusement rides; for example Psyclone, Shockwave and to a lesser extent Riptide at Canada's wonderland. I used to be able to go on those rides, but a few years back, got on one and felt really odd, was gripping the handles, holding on for dear life. Wasn't afraid of falling out or anything like that, just didn't feel right, cannot really explain it.
Only other thing are Carnies. Circus folk. Nomads, you know. Smell like cabbage. Small hands (Sorry, had to be done)

I found it really helpful to read Bear Attacks their causes and prevention

I am almost paralysed with fear when I have to use walkways that you can see through.
I found this out when I walked on the pier and couldn't stop looking at the water below through the slats .
This even extends to open tread staircases.
I couldn't park on the rooftop parking at my old supermarket because the stairway down was metal with those holes in the treads and I also couldn't walk round the walls at Lincoln Castle (or was it Warwick, can't remember!) as there is a section where the battlements are missing and they have bridged the gap with the same kind of see-through metal walkway.
I also avoid glass elevators as they terrify me.
OH went up the outside of the viewing tower in Vancouver; I got the staff to take me up on the inside staff elevator!
