There will be some, possibly a lot, who rubbish everything she does. She'll be PM, after all, and PMs are there to toss rotten tomatoes at from the comfort of your armchair. And then file a claim that your new 50" smart TV has been ruined by politicians.

May has one of those opportunities that arise only once every decade or so. Others, eg Blair haven't made the most of theirs.
It will take a single minded Thatcher like individual to exploit it to the full, and although I loathed the woman, I did recognise some of her better qualities.
May must take this opportunity by the scruff of the neck and stamp her authority on the upcoming negociations. It's a poison chalice... but she doesn't have to drink it herself, she can offer it to our EU friends and force them to drink it instead.

If only he'd made more of his opportunities eh?
School report - Good but can do better.

I'm not a fan by the way.

Blair acted the way he did as PM because he wanted to be remembered as a great PM. It was this aspiration that drove him to reckless action.
Consider the case of Lightfingered Larry, an habitual tea leaf who has always wanted to commit the crime of the century.
A visit to the Museum of Really Big Things surprises him when he sees the well known Diamondus Giganticus on display, an opportunity of a lifetime, not to be missed and Larry.. well he's never lacked ambition.
Scenario 1: Larry1 plans and plans and plans until his brain hurts and then one night he breaks in and steals the prized gem and takes the first train to Sunderland. He lives very happily ever after buying drinks for the all the lads every anniversary and he even buys the Stadium of Light with the proceeds.
Scenario 2: Larry2 thinks he is god's gift to criminality. He buys an AK47 and a bomb and shoots and blows his way into the Museum and a stray bullet hits the gem and it splinters into a million pieces ruining the prize and demolishing the Museum in the process. He gets away but CCTV is shown to DI Morse who sees beneath the disguise. Larry escapes to Newcastle and regrets it with every anniversay and keeps his head down thereafter, gazing at the NE wonderland across the Tyne. He tries to buy St James Park, but they won't sell it to him.. or even sell him a season ticket.
Comment: Both Larrys had opportunity, who do you think made the most of his? He really like football...

I see I started this thread in January as a way to find out about remote voting. Well, it was complicated enough to organize a proxy vote but I managed it in the end. Didn't do the Cause a lot of good as I am a Remainer and we lost.
I unsubscribed from the thread but have been obsessed by the Fallout so I'm back on it.
I never thought I'd live to see the day where I would be desperate for Theresa May to become PM but that day came.
Does anyone feel like I do (and like I read other journalists say lots of people are feeling) that it's all a bad dream we will wake up from, that you want to keep apologizing to other Europeans you meet for the behaviour of the Brits? I met some German tourists on the bus and I got to talking to them. We weren't talking about Brexit or anything but it was on the tip of my tongue to say I didn't vote out, I wanted to stay in ... but the moment passed.
My Union Jack phone case ... well that's got to go now. I'll get an EU one or a Canadian one.
Having a bit of a late night ramble. Sorry.

Germans just don't fear EU membership like Brits do, and in fact widely embrace it. And they do seem to interpret Britain's anti-EU rhetoric as unwarranted fear, not some march toward "freedom and democracy" as often sold by the leave camp, simply because as an EU member, Germany is pretty free and democratic as it is. That whole argument just doesn't reckon with most Germans.
But there is some dissent about immigration - although it's exclusively directed toward refugees rather than EU migrants, a "crisis" which by comparison, Britain simply cannot lay claim to (yet clearly does, if you remember for example, Farage's infamous poster, and the constant stream of hysterical tabloid headlines).
Plus, overall, Germany has until now, done pretty well inside the EU. It's economically in good shape, and the vast majority of people live a pretty high standard. So it's all a bit confusing for them.
Most seem fully aware that Brexit hurts everyone, including Germany, but I sense the general feeling is that it hurts Britain the most, and because Britain brought this on itself, will need to sort it out itself. They seem to look at it as a British problem, and so there's not a lot of daily thought or discussion about it.

Has there ever been a PM who didn't want to be highly thought of? Or not even just thought of?
The key is still "as PM" and he couldn't have done that without taking an opportunity which he obviously did.

It even got me into Bristol's "Dug Out" for free - saving all of 50p admission

So I was thinking that if I ever get to Europe again I shall have to wear an EU badge in the same "don't blame me" way.

Also on a lighter note do I need to modify my monochrome union jack on my bike jacket? I have a FEM (federation of European motorcyclists) pin somewhere.
Or, as that jacket is effectively canada only, I guess it's safe enough?
Big decisions.
(I'd defo bin any phone covers/ wallets/ BMW MINI's though)

OTOH I do have a Scotland pin which might come in handy for immigration. Plus need to get lots of pictures of me wearing woad onto facebook.
