Read an interesting point in an article today about Eastern Europeans preferring North America to Britain (and other Western Europe) as they are simply regarded as "Europeans" rather than "Eastern Europeans".

Americans think all eastern europeans are like Nico Bellic.

They mentioned being treated as 2nd class by the Germans and Russians certainly but though UK was better in that respect and mentioned friends/relatives who had settled in the UK and married British etc. They reckoned concerns in the UK about too many eastern europeans were overstated as most would be assimilated fairly quickly. Although non PC I have also heard them say how they can't see why UK would allow so many immigrants from India/Africa.........

Yes there have been reports of Eastern Europeans objecting to their kids being put in classrooms with black kids. You only need to look at last summer's football to get a sense that their thinking on racial issues is not quite 20th century let alone 21st. Hopefully by being in more tolerant and diverse Britain they can transmit some tolerance back to their home countries.

The Daily Mail-reading, UKIP-supporting little Englanders must be absolutely seething to know that we're not leaving the EU any time soon.

I hope it hurts.

Why give people the choice right? Might get a result the minority don't want!

There is some truth in that. The vast majority do not have the intellect or interest to weigh up many of complex economic, legal and political issues involved. Nevertheless, it has such a large impact on sovereignty and right to self determination that a referendum is the lesser of two evils. When it does happen, one would hope that the majority would make a concerted effort to understand both sides if the argument, and not just vote in the way their tabloid has indoctrinated them.

Spot on. That's also why we shouldn't have a referendum on issues such as the death penalty. It's highly probable that the majority of the British people would vote for it to be reinstated. Never underestimate the Daily Mail moron brigade - the type of people who share statuses and photos on Facebook advocating that "soldiers should be paid more than footballers" and "all paedophiles and murderers should be tortured and then killed".
