Hi
From what you have been saying in this post, I can see why YOU are unpopular....what an attitude. Very derrogatory. Showing your true colours here eh?

Does anyone else have this problem and, if so, what do you find sets them off? Also, what’s the worst thing you’ve said or done that seemed to get their goat?

Seems to be if he is constantly having what he says misunderstood, after all what he is saying is not really misunderstood as much as not very nice and a lot of Brits would also take offence, IMHO

I like his posts.

Isn't the misunderstanding bit the whole point?

( I hate that Brit name. To me it's the equivalent of calling someone Yank, Frog, Kraut.)

Yes it is, but it is also almost name calling and I feel that is derrogatory, so not so much misunderstood, but looking as if it is offensive? Does that make sense...I just can't help thinking that when you want to live in another country, that extra care should be taken when saying things like that. His other posts have been fine, but he is the one who feels misunderstood.....and I can understand why people will misunderstand that kind of statement.

It's nice we're on your mind. Nice, but slightly unnerving.

This post is a prime example why a topic like this is useful. Cultural misunderstandings are very common within and especially between immigrant communities. In different cultural contexts people often confuse respectful and reasoned debate or friendly comical banter for immature personal attacks. So, its wonderful that we can all learn and thus grow from this example.

I would say that was less of a cultural misunderstanding, and more that it was just that text doesn't easily convey emotional intent.

Absolutely not. Your observations are among the most devastatingly penetrating, insightful and factually supported on this site. I think the lack of tantrum induced hyperbole in your posts is credit to you.

Nothing wrong with a few facts.

Very refreshing...always nice to read a post full of sunshine.
