I voted 'in' at the last referendum on economic grounds, but even then I had misgivings. I wish I had listened to that little voice that said 'there is more to this than they are telling you.'

In order to join the EU a country needs to harmonise a number of different areas with the EU or bring them up to EU standards. These are known as Chapters and there are 33 of them which Turkey needs to complete in order to be eligible to join (any member state can still veto their accession). Turkey started this process in 1987 and to date only one chapter has been completed (Science and Research). It's clear it's not going to happen overnight.

As for the visa free travel it would only to the Schengen Area, of which the UK is not a member, and Turkey has failed to meet all the necessary requirements in order for that to happen so far.

Greece had to pass some very strict financial tests in order to join the Euro and we all know what happened there. I am sorry if I seem very cynical but I simply do not trust the motives of the unaccountable elite that rule the EU.

Nothing has been agreed yet and if there is an agreement, it will only be for the Schenghen area.

Remind me where you're getting your figures from.

Loving the idea of a green card for the EU if Brexit happens. Not. Or maybe that should be a red card.

Companies with offices in Rome, Barcelona, wherever, won't be able to place/transfer a UK worker unless they can justify not sourcing the labour within the EU.

As we've already said, those are not voting percentages, they're probabilities of a given side just winning.

PS This evening the pound = 1,30272622 euro, better than it's been for a little while. In general it tends to go down when Brexit seems more likely and vice versa. And I need a strong pound for the British part of my pension.

'Remind me where you're getting your figures from'.

Essentialy from binary (financial) and bookmaking markets. Probabilities are based on 50% plus 1. Easily observable. Currently 76.5% probability of remain gaining 50% + 1 of votes cast. For example, if you believe Remain will win, a bet of £76.50 will yield a profit of £23.50 if correct and a loss of £76.50 if Brexit win. Most polls have inherent biases to which ad hoc 'corrections' are then applied. Market odds are based on weight of money. No arbitrary re-marks.

Correctly forecast Conservative victory, Obama victory, Scottish referendum.

It's not the "unaccountable elite" call, every member state has a veto on new accessions, including the UK. All Eastern European new members have joined with the consent of the UK, actually because the UK pushed for it, and even chose not to impose initial restrictions to the immigration of their citizens, which was perfectly legal and almost every other member state did. But yet, instead of blaming your past governments, you blame the EU! Instead of demanding the UK never to accept Turkey, you prefer to vote leave.

I think the real reason behind the 80% of Leave votes is going to be because those people don't have a clue about how the EU actually works and what it actually does.

Lifted from the saintly Richard Coles Facebook page, who earwigs conversations all the llive long day. - Two women talking on the train: "I'm definitely definitely voting Leave." "Why?" "I don't know".
and that about says it all.

I may have a better one.. my 92 year old not completely with it mother tells me she's been informed that she HAS to vote. So she's voting remain because she doesn't want to leave her bungalow and move to Brussels !!!

I think they've overdone the reaction to the Fox murder. Obviously the murder shouldn't influence the voting either way, but terrorist attacks always favour the injured party (in this case Remain)... but then making too much political capital out of it favours the other side, especially in a campaign where serious arguments are thin on the ground.
I see that Mentana (rompiballe) is going to have an all-night session tomorrow, following the counting as they do for Italian elections.
