Skilled regional Sponsored 475: I believe this is a Temp visa and you have to be there for 3years in a specific region

Skilled sponsored 176: This is a perm visa and yes i believe the rules have now changed and you can live anywhere

If its a perm move your after i would say the 176 visa is best as you dont have to re-apply in a couple of years to get a PR visa.

But never rule out the 475 visa as at least it gets you there, then you are half way. I would recommend you speak with an agent or if you have the money use one as they will guide you the best route.

You'll have an obligation to live in the sponsored state during 2 years. After that you can live anywhere in Australia.

I think Janaka meant, as the person have two opportunities from two different states, s/he can chose any one offer.

I have applied 176(VIC state) visa under computing professional 2231-79 (nec) on May, 2009. I worked in usa under H1B working visa as software consultant from January, 2008 to May, 2009. Totally I have 5 years experience in India and usa. After I applied for Australia I lost my job in usa, since its hard to find job in usa now, I came to indiafor vacation on 2 nd of June, 2009. Will this situation effect to my DIAC application under 176? Still no CO assigned. What I have to do when CO assigned?

Can anyone advise if its a bad idea to apply to more than one state for SS? I'm only thinking of making two applications at most but don't want this to cause them both to be rejected.

Hi, in the case you have got 475 visa sponsor and after that you apply for 176 visa sponsor and suscessful. Then you choose applying DIAC for 176 Visa. Is that legal?

475 is a employer sponsor visa (if I'm not wrong) which is temporary, 176 (if SS) is a PR visa. You can apply for both of them simultaneyously. The risk involves is that you will be entitled with the latest visa you get.

You would definetly want to switch to PR after getting any temporary visa. That what people do. After getting 176 your 475 will be cancel. You will get all the benefits of 176. Then it is upto you to work for your employer or not, because you don't have to worry about your employer visa.

I would suggest not to apply both of them simultaneously. If 475 is approved later than 176, all your advantages of PR will be cancel with all the restrictions of 475.

To those still waiting - positive thoughts.

I was wondering, has anyone with VISA acceptance used an agent - if so did you get an email/letter from DIAC or was it your agent that notified you of the news? I am wondering if there is any point in me being disappointed by not having any mail from DIAC (each morning when I check) as they will contact the agent directly. The only reason I ask is that for my WA SS I was copied in on the email of acceptance that was sent to my agent and am wondering if the same will happen from DIAC.

As far as I understand it some COs don't update the document status. Often they grant the PR visa without ever changing any document status. My own application also appears to be following this pattern.
