Goa: Autorickshaws: No meter, big cry
25 Jun: Times of India. A common complaint among autorickshaw commuters is the lack of a transparent fare system. Most passengers are overcharged, and this has become the norm in most areas of the state. But autorickshaw owners say the meter system is unviable for them as fares are not revised after a petrol price hike, and neither do commuters want to pay the 50% return fare applicable for travelling outside municipal limits

North Goa’s coastal belt: Road to hell
26 Jun: Times of India. Come tourist season, October to April, the arterial road, that links the most vibrant coastal belt of the state, is a mess of traffic and daily congestions. Moving towards Calangute or anywhere beyond from Candolim, and vice versa, is a nerve-wracking experience, especially in the peak month of December… The only alternative, says former MLA Agnelo Fernandes, is to build a bypass from Sinquerim to Calangute via interior areas which would run parallel to the existing road

............................................

Special tourism zones hit roadblock
26 Jun: Herald. Goa government’s plan to have special tourism zones at isolated places with music playing through the night is facing a hurdle in the form of the Noise Pollution Rules…

'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' '''''''''''''''

Goa: Business events veil prostitution rackets
26 Jun: PTI. Business conferences and commercial events are serving as a new front for flesh trade with girls from various states being trafficked for these events in Goa, a city-based NGO has alleged… Several girls were rescued by police from Anjuna when they were brought by Andhra Pradesh-based fertilizer firm for their conference in Goa. The conference was to entertain the distributors

and for years they blamed the tourists!

The author fogot to ention Airport Stupidity Factor number 6 - their obsession with cigarette lighters !!

In my experience Indian airport security muppets are so intent on finding the cigarette lighters (or matches) to the exclusion of anything else - having watched them quite closely on a number of occasions they are so blindly focused on this that they would very likely not even recognise or notice a fully manufactured explosive device in the average tourists hand luggage!

The security at the airport cannot even speak english (or any semblance of it) even. More disgusting is the voluminous spittle the khaki uniformed numbheaded personnel dispense into the litter bins inside the airport itself...the 3 starred officer looked like he might even have had pleuresy...so great was the quantity. Never mind security...its the health hazard they themselves pose.

Ugh - the spitting !! It is so gross ! But then saying that, I was subjected to having to watch the England vs Italy fottball debacle and all the football playing lobotomies were spitting all over the place!!

Can't comment on the male airport security muppets in this sense but BEWARE WHEN BAGS ARE SEARCHED BY FEMALE AIRPORT SECURITY MUPPETS. Whilst one such hag was searching my bag onsessing about the presence of a non existent cigarette lighter, she opened a bag which I keep my jewellery in. I saw her very quickly flick my small 'Damas' box containing a gold bracelet to one side of the desk behind some books (Damas is a well known high end jewellery store in the Arab States and Asia). She then zipped up the bag and handed it back to me. When I challenged her she replied 'what box? there no box".
Immediately I got in her face and threatened to start shouting that she was a thief, she promptly picked up the bracelet box and literally threw it in my face.
A lot of people probably won't watch these people as closely as I do and this woman was so quick fingered many would have missed noticing what she did. I wonder how many people get home and find things have gone missing from their bags and have no idea that it may have been stolen during an airport search.

If searched by Indian airport security muppets - watch them VERY closely - especially their light and nimble fingers !!

Safest thing is to wear any jewellery, taken through any airport.

I have never had my bags searched, but worry about other passengers when the bags go through and the women's queue takes so long for the body search and your bags are just lying there.

It happened to my sis-in-law, a distinctive green bag was picked up by a male passenger instead of his own. She managed to catch up with him, no evil intent just stupid!!

Um that's not really a patronising comment at all is it !!
Not always practicable when one has a number of pieces which one wears regularly but not all together !!!
