Plus the cost of phone cards - not even that cheap in Tesco and Asda !!!!
They also manage to buy alcohol too !

I'd imagine it's pretty difficult. As I said, a phone is an absolute minimum for pulling yourself out of it.....and certainly not a luxury. Of course, they could all move to Noni's village instead.

Plus according to the article those who want work go to a central point to get work, and others just stay asleep all day.
And yes, you can get a job without giving a phone number - many do !

Where does the money come from for mobile phones and booze? Highly likely by committing crime or begging.

These people have no decent life here - it is pitiful - so the best thing that could be done for them is that they be picked up and given assistance to get back to their home countries.

Agree with you. It is a wonder how they managed to survive the winter.
But some have been there for years and they have no passports.

I agree with you that they should indeed be assisted. However, I disagree strongly with your earlier assertion that homeless people should not have mobile phones since these are luxury items.

In fact, when I'm in the UK for a couple of weeks I usually pick up a cheap mobile phone for the few odd calls I'll need to make, and then trash it at the airport when leaving. If, as one usually does, I see a homeless person on my journey out of Blighty, I shall in future present it to them as a gift on your behalf.

I couldn't give a monkeys whether you agree with me or not ! I find the mosquitoes in Goa far more significant than you and what you do or do not agree with - but thanks for the flattery of feeling that you want to give someone a present on my behalf - very kind of you, but please............
Do what you want - it's your phone !

Off to marinate the lamb now so it is nice and minty tomorrow - it was lovely and sunny today - so if it is the same tomorrow I may slice it up and sling it on the barbecue.

I'm so glad you understood.

BTW, it's in the eighties here -- a little hot for lamb.

Anger in Goa

26 Feb: The Sunday Times (UK). Goa Way. Indian government has expressed its concern about villages in Goa being taken over in their entirety by Russian and Israeli tourists, who have bought up property and are opening their own businesses… It is estimated that up to 40,000 Russians and 4,000 Israelis have moved to the northern beach villages of Morjim, Asvem, Arambol and Vagator — known locally as Tel Aviv beach…

40,000 Russians seem a tad on the exaggerated side.

I’m so happy to be madly in love, says Jade Jagger

28 Feb: DNA. Jewellery designer Jade Jagger has well proved her mettle in her profession… Reportedly, her beau DJ Adrian Fillary proposed to her in India last month, after asking Mick for his daughter’s hand… Jade’s love for India shows when she says, “I spend a great deal of time here, between Jaipur where I produce most of my designs, and Goa where I have a house on the beach to do my design work.” Apparently, her marriage is also set to take place in Goa, her most favourite destination.

Goa poll code sends tourists packing

26 Feb: Times of India. Tightening of rules ahead of voting in the Goa assembly polls during peak tourist season is sending away foreign tourists to other destinations like the Caribbean and Thailand, the state's tour operators say. The tourism industry's fortunes have virtually gone into a tailspin with election code guidelines stipulating that no alcohol can be served to guests after 11pm

Well the UK has gone mad anyway !
I couldn't care less what race, religion, colour, or whatever anyone is. However I have seen ID cards, driving licences and passports belonging to Moslem women where they have their faces covered with the jihab in the photograph. This has allowed them to obtain multiple NI numbers and to make multiple benefit claims in different variations of their names and birth dates.

As a tax payer in the UK I take real exception to this!
