Re: In To-day's Newspapers

I watched a blind man from my window today, always fascinated how a dog trained so well can be a mans/womans sight, their path was interupted, by a car trying to pull out in traffic, he waited, trying to move the dog around the car the dog refused, the man got his way in the end with the man touching his way eventually around the car, and back onto the footpath. And I thought having seen so many blind/ cataracts in India I had never seen any invalid help. I read this,
http://in.news.yahoo.com/20/20100408...man-local.html
and thought yes many places have litter problems, many hospitals have cleaning problems, we have many scandals,in government. I realise this is the capital of India, not Goa. I have also sat two hours in Bambolim hospital waiting until a friend, of a friend can ring a minister, to contact a doctor, who will then agree to look at my Goan friend, bleeding, and I felt dying, on a table in a corridor.
India wants respect as host nation for what?

Last week in calagute near Luma's I was getting in the car when i saw an old guy crossing the road, then bang a car hit him, reg plates MH, the old guy was total confused and had a large cut on his arm and leg, no one called the police or ambulance, just got the manatory bottle of soda out and a dirty clothe for his wounds I gave them a sterile gauze from first aid kit, and the driver of the car just stood there laughing on his mobile,
They dont respect their own so how the hell do they expect respect from others !!!

If plates were MH, the car was probably from Mumbai (Maharastra). Their attitude is "I came, I saw, I conquered".....more blood the better. Poor Goans.

Seen this in TA, If true it should be posted in the press worldwide to show what is happening in Goa.

“ MANDREM, Goa: ROBBED and beaten up by locals!!!!!!! ”
Apr 08, 2010, 8:46 PM
DONT GO TO MANDREM, GOA!

I was there with my boyfriend and those guys hanging around the supermarket forced us to give them our money. They have beaten me (I am a girl!!) saying Iam a stupid white b... and that they hate foreigners in Mandrem. Then 10 guys (incl. the supermarket owner and other locals) jumped on my boyfriend to beat him. They only let us go because we gave them all our MONEY!

After the owner of our guesthouse told us that this is some kind of local mafia and that they always do it with tourists!! NIce, she should have told us before. We left the place in the midldle of the night, it was horrible, we've both been bleeding. We've been adviced not to see the police..

Another excellent piece of bullsh*t from the Herald,

http://oheraldo.in/news/Local%20News...ars/35620.html

The closest thing you will find to truth in this typical example of every-day reality in Goa is:

Referring to the 39 plots, Dabholkar said all are committed to plantations of various sorts. On about half the plots we may come up with farmhouses for some of our own financing members
Financing members? Wonder who they might be......organic farmers and cashew pluckers?

Its not the rampant corruption that gets me anymore, its that they can openly spout this sort of cr*p and actually expect people to believe it!

One of the reasons locals will not call an ambulance is because they are worried that they will have to pay for calling it if the old man is not able to do so. As for calling the police, the Maharashtran driver would probably be able to pay them off !! A couple of seasons ago a British girl came off her bike in Calangute and was seriously injured. A load of people just stood around. Luckily someone who knew her came along and got her sent to hospital - a good job he did as she could have died from the injuries.
It's a callous world when people put money before helping another human being. A sad fact of India !

Dread - Life is cheap in India !

Dread, would this fear of having to pay still be the case with the 118 Ambulances? Although they can take ages to arrive, I thought they were free?

But anyway, when you are lying in the road bleeding, with a crowd standing round staring, and the police demanding a bribe for some obscure reason like denting the tarmac (well documented over the years), whatever you do, please............remember to respect your host country!

Were you aware that in the UK, if you hit a pedestrian in your car (even if it wasn't your fault) it is YOU that will get the bill for the ambulance. The only way you can get it back is by sueing the person you hit!

Good job I am now unlikely to meet with an accident in Goa, the Ambulance service I was referring to is;
108
not 118, so if you have a mishap, please get it right, unlike me! Think I was getting confused with the sucessor to "Directory Enquiries" with the demented twins 118 118 etc?

Here is a link to their site (it dates from the launch in late 2008 I think)
http//www.emri.in/content/view/24/59/

Intertesting to see they will reach you in an average of 18 mins - from some of the stories I've heard, to achieve that average some of their call-outs must be achieved in 15 seconds! Also interesting to see it also calls for fire/police emergency attendance? Dont think that bit ever got activated in ZoS, did it? I must admit I cant see anything about it being free, apart from the phone call, but was sure it was? Dont think the bit about free hospital treatment for the first 24 hours would work in Goa either, they would just leave you to rot for 24 hours and 1 minute, then burst into frantic (and chargeable) activity.

If you want a larf, scroll down to the last section where they drivel on about the significance of the number 108......i

Especially liked "Silly reason Number 11)
At least we will instantly recognise Allah (may his name be praised) if he gets a bit part on the tacky remake of The Prisoner:
"Who is Number One? You are Number 108!"
" I am not a number, I'm a free man....................Oh and the Great Prophet and centre of the Muslim faith too of course!"

Oh b*gger, I feel a Fatwa coming on, innit?

Don't know but was told by a local, that u can get kaju FREE from the stills if you take your own container, that was in Siolim, and wether you would have to darken your skin tone, I don't know. Another reason of course to respect the host nation :rofl::rofl: (hate people who laugh at their own jokes :frown:)

I READ THIS FAST, AND I READ IT SLOW, I understood this bit :
The funniest part is that the orders were signed by the sarpanch instead of the secretary. Naturally, we had to quash and set aside the demolition orders," said the source. DOH !!!
Which is probably why this bit hasn't happened: http://oheraldo.in/news/Local%20News...ion/35662.html
is it just me:confused::confused::confused:
