Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Right, so far no-one cares which hospital this is.................I offered to let you all know by PM avoid any problems to BE.
Secondly, dont pay through the nose for syringres etc in UK, if you get them from a reliable source in Z-o-S, like Union Pharmacy in Mapusa or the Hindu Pharmacy in Panjim you will be fine and they will cost pence. These places have too much to lose by selling 'ookey goods, even to whites. The so-called chemists along the coastal strip should, however, be approached with great caution. |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
I don't know whether this is the much lauded V on NH17, or the V which used to be a B in down town market area Calangutty.
My OH, who is as senior a Senior Staff ICU Nurse as you can get (without becoming a bureaucrat, budget controller, pen pusher) in one of the most respected ICU facilities in the UK, had the misfortune to seek treatment at the then Braggin Hosp. (now a V) The 'Doctor' broke all rules of hygiene, gave a misdiagnosis, fobbed us off with some antibiotics my OH already had the sense to have been taking prior to collapsing. Said 'Doctor' could not even read the thermometer correctly!!! Their only concern was for payment, and to keep you in the hospital so that they could charge bed time tarrif. Our experience at Vintage, Panjim on another occasion was no better. Positively dangerous. That's another distressing brush with mortality, inappropriateto report in present circumstances. My sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Please take this to the highest level of attention of Gordon Brown, the Foreign office, High Commisssion India, and the UK press who arguably have more influence over public opinion than the debating floor of the House of Commons, or the numerous Select Committees. |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Johnny five...I said name them! Never mind private messages! What has BE got to worry about, who's in the wrong here?
If anything is said just do as they do....lie through your teeth, blame someone else, ignore things and sweep it under the carpet!!! Because unfortunatly as we all know that is exactly what will happen. |

Dear Mrs M.. Following on from Babu's advice above - I would also suggest you post it onto the 'Rough Guide to Goa' site and the 'Lonely Planet Goa' site - they will keep it there for other visitors to read (although you will probably have to take the Doctor and hospital names out). They may even print warnings in their next print editions about Goa hospitals. This malpractice is a danger to everyone, so the word needs to be spread as far as possible. Dread - spreading the word x |

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Goa airport, like the rest of Goa is one huge public toilet as is every other airport across the subcontinent. Goa had a unique opportunity 25 years ago to plan ahead and maintain/ support a natural paradise. It is all a miserable, pathetic failure . A permanent disgraceful shame visible for generations to come.

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Hi,
The story about the opening of the new Police Station and the hiring of Russian Belly Dancers really incenses me; a) The event was public and presumably the Police are there to serve the public both local and tourist. Would the local or other women really feel happy to see belly dancers as part of the entertainment. Given that they are part of the community why was the entertainment not more appropriate? How did the female Police officers feel about it? (This is Goa) b) Given that the Police will have to deal with sexual crimes how can they imagine that this behaviour would make people feel secure in reporting such crimes. There should be some sensitivity surely within a professional Police Force. The Chief Superintendent of Police said he could see 'no harm in it' (This is Goa). The event was stopped when too many people climbed on to the stage with the young dancers, this is a total embarassment to the Goan Police force. (This is Goa) c) No foreigners are allowed to work without a work visa. This includes all charity work. Can we assume that all the dancers were holding the required visa. (This is Goa) d) Strangely the Chief Superintendant for the Police was reported as saying that the media were hyping up the issue. He went on to say that tourists sunbathe naked on the beaches which offends his culture. I understand that he is offended and also that it is illegal to be naked in public. Therefore, the Police should arrest these people. (This is Goa) Where is it part of Indian culture to watch semi clad Russian women belly dancing. Certainly it is not part of our culture for Police to behave in this way This was a public event not a private one! Probably no more will come of it, but rest assured this insensitive and crass public behaviour of the Goan Police is indicative of their general moral behaviour. I can only add that I know that not all police officers in Goa are so lacking in moral substance. |
In today's Navhind Times

Have a look at the attachment to this post, remember when the property debacle kicked off? The online editions of the Goan newspapers carried advertisements for properties for well over a year afterwards.
Now that the tourism industry (for the British tourists at least) seems to be turning to rat sh1t, what advertisement is the online edition of the Navhind Times carrying today?? Yes, that's correct - it is carrying an advertisement for holidays to Israel. . . . . . . . .:blink::rofl::ohmy::eek: H. P.S. - You may only be able to open the attachment if you have a version of 'word' or 'writer' on your PC/laptop. |

A poet in our midst me thinks GC:thumbsup: Time to spread our wings? Carol, Candolim/UK So happy to see on Candolim shores Lifeguards to watch, whilst I dip my toes But who do I turn to when I’m sore and red? ‘cos I haven’t a sunshade or even a bed! Can’t get a drink or sit in a shack Tell me, Goa, do you want us back? Maybe it’s time to spread our wings and find a place that provides these things, A place where tourism is well and alive And does not open even after we arrive! |

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Letter in the Herald
Does Goa really want tourism? Pat Hughes, Cavelossim Yet again we have the annual fiasco regarding the licensing of shacks on the beach. Many first-time visitors expecting a great experience in Goa will go home disappointed by the lack of facilities and amenities and look elsewhere for their next winter holiday. I have been visiting Goa for 13 years and I write on behalf of many who regularly spend 5 months here each winter. We love your country and the majority of people we have met here are courteous, honest and caring. But we are tired of the same controversy each year and are seriously considering looking for alternative venues in the future. If you consider that my own average annual spend in Goa is Rs3 lakh, you will get an idea of how the economy of Goa will suffer if this happens. In these days of global recession, can Goa really afford to treat its visitors in such a cavalier manner? Tourists are becoming more discriminating. Visitor numbers were down significantly last season and indications are that they will be down again this season. Surely it is the responsibility of the shack owners and the Tourism Department to resolve any problems or disputes regarding applications during the monsoon season thus enabling licences to be issued well before the season starts. I can speak with some authority on these matters as I was awarded the MBE by the Queen in recognition of my services to tourism in Britain. The shack situation is doing the tourist industry no good what so ever. Why can't they see no further than the end of their noses No forward thinking or strategic planning Be carful what you wish for Goa,you just might get it:thumbdown: GC;) |
