Hello,

Passport applied from: Pakistan
Passport applied by: Mother (Nationality: Pakistani)
HMPO office dealing with the application in UK: Liverpool HMPO
Passport application received by Liverpool HMPO on: 19-AUG-2014
Liverpool HMPO requested additional supporting documents on: 16-SEP-2014
Started working on it after receiving all the supporting documents on: 03-OCT-2014
Father (British citizen) interviewed (at Birmingham HMPO) on: 04-MAR-2015

At the interview HMPO said that we will hear from them within 4 weeks but to date we have not received any communication from them. When we ring them they say it is a complex case and that they are doing security checks.

I think our case is 1 of the 30,000 in the backlog i.e. HMPO only prioritise simple straight forward cases.

Hello kalink and b2k420

I applied from Islamabad as well. The only difference is that both me and my hubby are British nationals. But still absolutely no nothing from hmpo after a month from interview done. Well let's see what happens. I was thinking seriously of contacting my mp but with the elections and everything, I think it's useless to do so. I have sort of given up on them...I am a bit tired of chasing after them when they will take their sweet time...

Hello Everyone.
5th months ago I applied for my first adult British passport. Now I have an emergency to travel. I think the people at the Liverpool passport office cannot help much. The other problem is I do not have any other travel document or passport. The previous one I held was revoked by the consulate of the country that I previously belonged to in the process of getting naturalised as a British citizen. Any idea from anyone will be highly appreciated.

Hello

Can't believe how long some of you had to wait, but its good to know I'm not the only one.

I applied for my first adult British passport sometime in late Oct/early Nov from Australia by British decent, through my father who was born their. My mother was an Australian citizen when I was born, however she was born in the Philippines.

I have been waiting over 5 months now for my passport. It took them 3 months to email me and tell me that I need to get a CENOMAR certificate from the NSO in Manila to prove she had no record of marriage in the Philippines (they have an Australian marriage). After all the expenses from having this document shipped to us in Aus then back out to them in Liverpool, I get another email from them about 3 weeks later saying they now want my mothers birth certificate (which she did not have), so I was forced to contact the NSO in Manila again for her birth certificate (wasting more time).

I called them and emailed them during these issues but all they say is that they're not sure what documents they need until they review them. I'm traveling to Europe on 1st June and thought 6 months would be enough time to get this passport, but clearly not (still hoping though!).

What frustrates me is that my older sister got her British passport quickly without any of these problems! They never hassled her asking questions about my mother. I know they're doing their security checks but I just wish they were a bit more organised.

They also emailed me at one point saying that they haven't had a reply from me and they will destroy my documents soon if I don't reply!

Hello Faree,

I am surprised if both of you are British it should have been simple straight forward process i.e. they should have issued the child passport within 4 weeks. You can contact the MP after the elections, they were not processing our application but when my MP got in touch with them I got a reply from HMPO in 1 week.
I learned my lesson that to have children in a country that has Zero or Low risk of fraud in future i.e. not in Pakistan. My whole family has been in lots of stress because of HMPO.
Your case is different, you need to speak to a good lawyer (I know of one), If your hubby is in UK and you also have a job in the UK then HMPO should issue you an emergency document if you can prove their is no one in Pakistan to look after the child but it is best if you discuss this with a lawyer.

-----------------------------------------------

Hello fatcat,

In my onion your sister was just lucky or HMPO might have changed their internal process since she applied or it can be as simple as your case worker is following a different process (believe me this can happen).

For first adult British passport just like the first child British passport they ask for Mother's Birth Certificate, Mother's & Father's Marriage Certificate/s, Decree absolute/s, Mother's & Father's Passports 1 year before the birth of the applicant & Prenatal/Postnatal documents (Ultrasound scan etc..)

Once they Liverpool HMPO receive documents they send it back to Philippines to get attested/verified by different (I have heard they get verified by 6 organizations in Pakistan) local sources/organizations. That is why it takes them longer to do Foreign security checks but saying that if you are lucky it can be done in less time.

Hello Everyone,I am british and my child mother not a british. My child mother went for an interview and later got an email to do DNA to support the Claimed the father/child relationship before they issue the passport. Sadly I paid for the DNA fees and the result confirm I am the paternity father.
My question is does the overseas British passport issued in abroad or in UK?
How long it takes to issue after interview or Receipt of DNA results?
Do the supporting documents and passport sent together?

Finally @ Faree, sorry to hear yours has taken too long. I remember u told me on this forum when my child mother was told to come for interview. Many thanks for ur advice.
I hope you hear good news soon. Strange!!!

Hello everyone,

I don't know about 4 weeks processing time when both parents are British....when u apply for kid born in high risk country, u run for a long frustrating wait. I will hold out on lawyer just how. I will see to the mp route after elections.

I was following another thread abt apps made from India...and on that forum everyone who has applied in month of sept 2014 either got their passport or it has been dispatched. Abt 5 ppl in a row. Let's see, new month now and maybe they will move to apps made in October 2014. That's when I applied, or maybe I am just grabbing at tiny flickers of hope.

But still, there is absolutely nothing complicated abt our case, interview has been done....so irritatingly strange....

Thanks so much for the reply, you've been way more helpful than HMPO . At least now I can understand better what's happening. Really hoping that everything will be sorted within 4 weeks (wishful thinking):fingersc rossed: but I'm trying not to stress much over it as there's no point, all I can do is wait. My only concern would be if they request another document when I'm gone because I'll be overseas for nearly 2 months :S

Hello Komfo,

>Does the overseas British passport issued in abroad or in UK?
It will be sent to the child's address that you put on the application form or if the Guardian (who filled section 9 on the applying for a British passport from outside the UK form) wrote a letter to HMPO requesting them to Post it to a different address than the one on the passport application form.
If the address on the form is overseas than the local embassy in that country will contact you using the contact details on the application form (depending on there arrangement with the HMPO) that your passport has arrived how would you like to pick up or you want them to post you.
In Pakistan, there is Gerry's (just like UK's Post Office Check & Send service) who check and send all applications to HMPO UK.

>How long it takes to issue after interview or Receipt of DNA results?
1) The passport should be issued within 2-4 weeks but it can depend on your application type & HMPO's priorities/targets, 2) It depends on the country's embassy that will send the DNA to UK (e.g DNA from Dubai might get to UK in less time than from Pakistan) & 3) I will ring them after 1 week and after 2 weeks I shall write to my MP.

>Do the supporting documents and passport sent together?
They are sent separately, 2 days apart.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Faree,

My wife met a guy at Gerry's office in Pakistan who had come to collect a child passport 2 weeks after applying for it. Both parents were British of the applicant. I guess India is a low risk country than Pakistan.

After my interview HMPO said they will do Foreign Security Checks and if need be they might ask me for a DNA test. DNA test will be the last stage so they still can ask your hubby for DNA test. Hopefully you will get the passport soon.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello fatcat,

I would take all the documents overseas with me so if they ask me I would post them straight away but if they ask for something I have not got I would ask my one of relative to arrange for desired documents in my absence and ask them the post it to HMPO. Touchwood, they will not ask you for anymore supporting documents.

When I applied for my son's passport. I gave them all the necessary/desired supporting documents but they still asked me for extra supporting documents, they even asked me for information/forms which I had already provided to them.

Hi, guys....just a quick update on applying for my children overseas British passports (the new online way)

My children's British passports turned up while I was in the Philippines on Friday December the 20th. They took exactly 9 months and delivered by DHL to our apartment. Did not require to have an interview, I am guessing the British birth certificate issued by the Embassy in Manila had something to do with that. I have posted the key dates below:

We applied online Feb 24th
Documents sent March 19th
Documents received on March 20th at Liverpool Passport Office
Received 2 British child's passports December 20th (9 months)

Hello B2K420
Thank you for your wonderful explanation.please I have 2 more questions,
DNA was done through UK company and a result has been abroad.
I don't know how quicker they sent the result abroad? I received mine in UK last week Thursday.
Also with regards to your explanation, please do you mean the passport is processed and issued in UK and sent to abroad or they proceeded in abroad? The reason is that the British high commission requested that the DNA should be sent directly to British High commission but not HMPO in UK?
I don't really know why?

Thanks very much for that information Will1927. I think it will take HMPO 9 to 12 months to issue my son the passport.

Komfo,
>DNA should be sent directly to British High commission but not HMPO in UK?

Did you apply to register your child's birth with the UK authorities? (The answer actually does not matter that much)
Even if the DNA result goes to BHC (Not to HMPO). BHC will update their records and shall inform HMPO of the DNA result that your are the father and to issue the passport.

>Do you mean the passport is processed and issued in UK and sent to abroad or they proceeded in abroad?

Yes, all passports are processed/issued in UK and posted to the applicant's address as the child's mother is in Ghana who submitted the application the passport will be posted to Ghana.

>I don't know how quicker they sent the result abroad? I received mine (DNA result) in UK last week Thursday.

As you received yours last Thursday I would start chasing HMPO from next week.

HMPO have processes in place that they will only work on a case after a set time [e.g. If they have asked for DNA test for a case Today, they will see/chase the result (i.e. process this case) after 15 working days (depending on their internal targets/deadlines/priorities) before this time they will not touch this case unless there is some other reason (letter for MP etc..)]
So even if you chase them after 1 week they might still say to you, "We are doing our security checks, give us a ring back in 2 weeks, blah, blah....". The truth is your case is not a priority and they will work on it after a set time (i.e. when they are ready).
