It is important to let the Canadians know that British people are not "immigrants" to Canada. Britain built Canada, and a red carpet immigration needs to be extended for this purpose. Canadians are the descendents of the Loyalists back in history who remained faithful to mother England. Perhaps if the Pound Sterling tumbles and UK goes bankrupt, Canada should open its arms to all those who are British to live in Canada.
Americans too will be rushing up north when their economy collapse. The Pound will be 1 pound to 1 Canadian dollar by then perhaps.

I thought that this thread and the other one about living for free in Vancouver were wind ups, pure and simple and not worth a reply. Either that or the poster is seriously deluded.

This may well be a windup but, if not, please assure us that you are not emigrating to here and Deo Volente, you're not already here. Your kind of antideluvian thinking is most undesirable.

Well it depends on what you mean by "different". Florida is different from Nunavut, PEI is different from New Mexico, Manitoba is different from Connecticut, Hawaii is different from Quebec. Overall though the macro culture is similar, regional differences are not determined by the 49th parallel which is quite literally a line drawn in the dirt before the western half of the continent was settled.

I agree that North America varies in North-South bands independent of the border, Ontario=Ohio, Alberta=Texas etc., but doesn't this just support my point that immigrants can't blend with Canadian culture because there isn't a Canadian culture? Immigrants enrich the country by behaving as if they were at home but with more coats.

Isn't that the point though ? A major component of Canadian culture is that you don't bring your origin's baggage with you such as prejudice, class structure, intolerance etc.
