Canada doesn't have much of a beer tradition though there are a few micro brews that are worth a try. I torture visitors with something called Labatt 50, it's a greenish stew of chemicals few can manage to get down.
Fortunately, there are loads of quality beers in the US (as well as some dreadful piss) and it's not too far to the border.

You can always subscribe to BBC Canada also a channel called TVO (television Ontario) runs alot of British programming as does the American channel PBS - all of these are commercial free!! showcase shows Brit programming as well - so you're not totally cut off when you come here!
Can you get Heinz's baked beans in Canada? Does it taste the same?

Re: What will you most miss about the UK
You can.....................do they taste the same ?............no !
As for the TV. I can't say its all crap, but the majority of the US stuff is. Our saving grace is that we get BBC Canada, and BBC kids aswell as the BBC world News. Also National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and a few other decent ones like those.! CBC is OK actually. You just need to try channel packages out for a while and if you find they are terrible, switch to different ones.

Personally, I couldn't care less. it's like the Springsteen song - 57 channels and nothing's on.
TV will be crap in whatever country.

I suspect that's an urban myth unless 'globally' means 'within Europe & possibly North Africa'. Sky satellite footprint doesn't extend beyond Europe so you can have all the dish you want here but still not get it.

Well you may be right. I know the guy travels globally - and I do mean globally. I have seen the dish and decoder up and running in most european countries, that is true, but as far as I know he takes it everywhere. I think the trick is to find a hotel room with a window in the right direction.

yeah, it took us a while to get used to the beer and liquor store thing - so used to buying beer/wine in Sainsbury's etc......Quebec is good for that I suppose..........given your missus in francophone would also play a major part in it! where you from in Blighty??

There's also Live UK TV (www.liveuk.tv). I don't know if it works and am not vouching for them at all. Just saw an Internet ad and checked it out the other day. Apparently, all you need is a decent broadband connection (just like with the slingbox) and be willing to depart with 25 quid or 45 bucks a month. You get BBC 1, 2, ITV and Channel 4. Has anyone ever used it?

Sadly not that simple as there are licensing agreements and all sort of other legal stuff that affect this type of thing. Hence no BBC Radio 5 footy commentaries for some games for those outside the UK and the like.

Makes sense I guess. I'll keep tuning in to BBC Radio 2 for Steve Wright in the afternoon and Chris Evans drive time
