And if that happens then I'll pay the fine. But I doubt they will bother.

Well thats only good if you listen to the radio. The only radio I listen to is Radio 1 on the Internet. Candian radio sucks, as does the news which I never watch either. The other rule about double speeding fines had been posted on signs all around where I live, why didn't they do it with this rule?
As for there being no way to enforce it on a tourist, why the hell do you think they take a credit card 'imprint' when you hire the car???
Yeah but have this ever happened to you? I had a credit card imprint in the states from a rental car, got a traffic fine, didn't pay it and guess what? It didn't turn up on my credit card, what a surprise.

I don't think the DVLA issues new driver numbers, I think the previous driver number on your UK license is the one you'll get on your "new" UK license, it's a combination of your birth date, surname etc - so I think it stays with a driver forever. That of course means that the UK and AB are sharing information and when the AB license is returned to them by the DVLA, they will know where you are.

I've also read in this article - http://britishexpats.com/articles/fi...moving-abroad/ - that the UK and Canada have reciprocal agreements with regard to recovering unpaid debt, I don't know the specifics but I guess it's entirely feasible you could be chased to pay this long after you're back in the UK.

(once got away with a parking ticket in Vienna, our UK plate number didn't fit the boxes on their preprinted Austrian forms and they left off some critical digits so I was confident we'd not be found )

If that happens then I'll pay the fine

Because circumstances allow, you think that it is alright to ignore the fine and swan off back to the UK. Sorry but I can't condone this type of behaviour in fact I think that if you can't accept the consequences of your actions then perhaps you really need to do some major growing up.

It doesn't make any difference whatsoever that the Alberta Government is rolling in money. You broke a law that you claim to be in complete agreement with so why do you have a problem with paying the fine?

As to your original question. "Thoughts?"

I think your moral compass is somewhat askew.
And your point is?

Actually yes. Speeding fines, parking tickets and toll charges have all appeared on credit cards.

I'm glad you're leaving Canada...sounds like you have a sketchy driving history at best! The roads are dangerous enough!

I presume that would be equivalent to a high school teacher here in Canada.

With your morals I certainly wouldn't want you teaching any child of mine.

If you believe it is alright to walk away from your responsibilities in this case what else would you do in other circumstances, if given the chance?

I like others am very glad you are returning to the UK as we don't need any more of your kind here.

It's precisely because of people like him that I am ditching the UK

He's probably one of those teachers that is always complaining about how poorly paid he is whilst shirking his responsibilities.

The UK is welcome to you - I couldn't agree more with what Hangman has said

Handbags. Ouch you hurt my feelings. Actually I think teachers are paid very well.

If thats the reason you are ditching the UK then you'll get a big shock when you arrive here.
