Hello,
I got pulled over the other day because I didn't know the new rule in alberta about slowing down to 60 when an emergency vehicle is pulled over and lights flashing. Got a lovely $650 fine.
Thing is I'm going back to UK in August and my court date to plead not guilty will be after then. I'm going to send them a letter to tell them I no longer live in Canada (been here on a 1 year bunac visa) just so as not to waste their time in sending letters etc to my old address.
Any repurcusions? The fine is on my canadian license which I will surrender when I get back to the uk, my SIN number expires in august. Anyone know if they'll try and get me when I come back to canada for a holiday in a years time?
I'll have a different drivers licence.
Thougts?

HI
You don't appear or pay, they issue warrant, pretty simple.

4 months is still a new law.
Yes I am guilty but I think I'll take my chances, since I'll have a new driving licence number and a new passport number in a few years. No way to trace me.
If I were a tourist they wouldn't have even bothered fining me since there would have been no way to enforce it.

Well I have an outstanding traffic fine from the US for the last three years and I have been back there 6 times since then.
I'll not be immigrating to canada so it won't effect any immigration etc, I'll only ever be here as a tourist with a different driving license and passport number so how can they indite someone on a same name alone?
I'll let you know if I get slung into chokey! :-)

Some feel that if it is a divided highway or road (dual carriageway for those who are new here) when the pedestrian has reached the mid-island you can go, the argument being that he/she has reached the other side of "your road". Not sure if I disagree with that argument, but I'm also not sure I want to try it with a cop next to me.
I have seen police cars turn right before pedestrians have reached the other side of the road numerous times in downtown Calgary. Mind you if you did wait until all the pedestrians had completely crossed at some downtown intersections you would never get around the corner the way most pedestrians ignore the "Don't Walk" lights.

Cheers

In my case, this was a regular road, traffic light intersection at Crowfoot.
My son once had the balls to tell a cop off (after he pulled in to Timmies for the regulation do-nut) for not coming to a stop at a 4-way stop sign, and setting a bad example to young drivers like himself!! LOL

You already decided what you are going to do.
Did you want everybody here to agree it is the right thing??
