On edit : I don't mind Harvey's burgers on the ground but, after hours of heating, they're horrible puck like objects.

There are sites on the internet showing how to make bombs, you would think the governments would close them down wouldn't you?

Yes, it is possible to blow up an aeroplane, but why use carry on luggage? Why not place the laptop with the bomb in it in the hold like in the Toshiba adverts? Messing around with passenger's carry on is only a worthwhile incovenience if there is some benefit; I'd sooner the effort went into banning people over 200lbs and those roll along bags with the ankle slashing legs.

Given the infrequency of highjackings/ bombings/ general nastyness, and the fact you seldom hear of anyone being arrested for trying it on. Wouldnt that indicate that the current measures seem to be sufficient?
Intelegence and rounding up terrorists in advance has to be a better use of resources than a knee jerk increase in gate security across the board.
In the long term the real battle has to be the battle for hearts and minds so one group doesnt feel the need to try and kill large numbers of strangers at random to make some neopolitical point, but I dont see anything being done on that front. Blowing up houses and displacing large groups of refugees would seem to be counterproductive to me

At the end of the day even if in it's whole life time these new proposals save 1 persons life then that is well worth all the hassle of changing from a backpack to a clear plastic bag. And banning a few unsolicite items.
Also in terms of letting the terrorist 'win' sitting back and not trying to stop them is called giving up against them.
Also it doesn't happen very often as everyone keeps saying but if they don't get stopped what's to say that they don't increase this from an anual event to a weekly event

Don't get me wrong it is an inconveiniece but there was life before these technologies came around and there will be without them.
If it is that desperate then the airlines may allow you to be able to register valuable/fragile luggage (for a small fee).

I don't think you have any reason to be paranoid about pending naturalization petition. Canada, like the US, does not consider religion, race or sexual orientation to be a criteria for naturalization.
