hubby is looking for crane ********** and we went round all the crane companies ( googled them) and he chatted to the ops manager if he could get in. mostlyt he receptionist took his resume as they were not hiring etc, but the accent goes a long way, they want to know why you are here ( recce because we are emigrating and need a job lined up) how long you are over ( came over especially for one week only *sigh* ) then lead into what your qualifications are etc. we made a couple of good contacts but the job market in BC, for cranes at least , is still slow. it is picking up but we were told it will be a while ( 3-6 months) before one particular company will be hiring, no one else was that specfic.

so yes i think that face time will work better than anon calls and emails. its costly and a hasstle but if you are willing to make the effort it goes a long way.

I have arranged to do similar in a couple of weeks. So you felt it was worth it?
If your hubby has crane operator does he not have other strings to his bow that he could perhaps try. I suppose I am being a bit dim and stating the obvious, I would imagine you have looked at this from all angles.
I have chatted to you before about this and I know you got him to call first, I am brickin it to pick up the phone and to chat to some complete stranger!
But I guess I will have to do it! Its strange because the other day I was thinking about what I needed to be prepared and thought what about some mints in case of my breath! Then I thought who the hell smells your breath through the phone?
