Had a face to face interview for a shop floor position last week. The interview was very relaxed and the guy asking the questions was friendly, seamed to know exactly what he wanted, and was completely upfront about everything. As long as you explaine all your experiance properly and dont try to bullshit him you should be fine, one of the best interviews Ive been on.
My only worry is that he compaired Halifax to cornwall. Im single and 25, so I could handle Newquay, but the rest of my life in Penzance could be an issue. Obviously Im not after the bright lights of London, but I wouldn't mind a few drinks and a club on a saturday night. Anybody know if theres much around or if everybody is tucked up by 10pm. Thanks

hi marry,
had face to face interview on sunday and it went quite well i think i find out this if i got the job.
there is no way u will over there this year, the hr lady gave us a prediction of about 6 months. this is to allow for paper work, lmo and twp. it takes 8 - 12 weeks for the criminal record check papers alone.
hope this helps and doesn't dishearten u.

I hope you mean next Dec. I rent in England so Im ready to go soon as, but the application for the Visa takes between 8-10 weeks. So im hoping for Feb-March time. There was no technical aspect for my phone interview as the guy was off sick, so it was all about the HR side. As I said though, its all very relaxed but professional. If you have an airframe tech background, wouldnt worry

I work at Imp already. If you want decent nightlife you need to be in either Halifax or Dartmouth both have Pubs, Bars and clubs. Its not Penzance its more like Truro
Kind regards

Not sure where you got the info about criminal record check from. If you go acro.com you can get you criminal record certificate in 3 working days. You dont need these though until you arrive in Canada, They are not needed for your work permit. However you will need 2 on arrival for yourself and one for your wife or partner and one for any children over 18.
Hope this helps

IMP offer a relocation package of $11000. Also the hourly wage is approx $21.00 per hour
Hope this helps

As Poface says the starting wage is about $20 per hour
. This amounts to a take home of about $600 per week. This is not much by UK levels but is about twice the NS average wage and is about the average for trade jobs in NS. You can live on it but life is slightly more comfortable, if you OH works, or you do a bit of overtime.Sorry my PM was to late for the interview but its all go here and Friday night is beer night

It is true that the shop floor averages around $20 but it depends on your experience, I had 25 years in the airforce and started pretty much on full whack.
Its not the best wages in the world but it is fair for Nova Scotia, however the work permit gets you here a lot quicker than PR application and there is a relocation package as well. You know sometimes the best thing to do is to give them a call, their HR dep is realy friendly, and will allay most fears over the phone. There are benefits as well although not quite up to what other firms offer, you get 80% medical and dental plan for the family, but holiday allowance as in all of Canada realy is poor.
I came to NS with a tidy sum in the bank, and already 3/4 the way though PR so IMPs offer was good for me it got me here quicker, but I would advise anyone coming here not having thought about Canada before dont do it on a whim, the process overall is expensive, we have been here a year and are just begining to settle financially. Not trying to put people off just do your homework is all.
And in answer to the nightlife there are areas that are lively (better than or as good as Newquay) and areas where you can get away from it all it depends on what you want realy.

Hi all
My husband has received an email from IMP, after Orla at UK2NS sent his resume to them for us.
The email asked for him to clarify some basic info, e.g. expected salary, timescale for moving, and also asked what would be the best time to call him for a telephone interview.
I've done a search on here and read some interesting info about IMP generally, as well as one person saying they also received an email like my husband's, but never got a call! I am trying to remain positive that he will get a call from them, and therefore am asking for some advice. They are also over in Leeds in Nov for the Expo so we are hoping he will get an interview arranged for then.
I would like to ask if anyone has any experience of a telephone/face-to-face interview with IMP - what sort of questions should my husband expect? He has worked for BAE Systems for all of his working life (13 years), so has not got much experience of interviews at all! I have worked in recruitment, so can give him general advice, but am lost when it comes to aerospace and what they might be looking for!
NB. he has applied for an aerospace mechanic position, he works as a pipe fabricator at BAE.
Hope someone has some advice to offer....
Thanks,
Janie
