Re: Exchange rate
I posted a thread about buying a truck from the States - lots of help was provided. It's the same procedure for cars.

1.98 and hovering for a while.... and then the plonkers at the BOE signal rate cuts! Fantastic..... I wonder if we'll start to see it on the way down to 1.50 tomorrow! It's like they want to wreck the pound like the USD's been wrecked. This "special" relationship has got to end

Re: Exchange rate
Don't worry. It went up 2.6 cents today, it could just as easily drop 2.6 (or more) tomorrow and the day after, and.... etc.
At least you can now plan ahead. You know how many dollars you have, and that should be a weight off your shoulders.
We all say "if only".....

Re: Exchange rate
Well, I just moved approx. one third of our home sale proceeds across @ 1.9974, which was as close to the magic 2.000 as I could get them with the interbank rates at about 2.007.
The rates are up again today (well, relatively) because of this sort of news.
Cheers, Iain

Hifx have got it at 2.00 and Yahoo and Moneycorp have it at 2.02. I know it's a bit of an unknown but does anyone think it'll go higher? We've just booked our flights for next Wednesday so will need to sort out some money!

Re: Exchange rate
Very surprising inflation numbers from Canada at midday UK time saw a pop over 2.03. Inflation appears back under control leaving the way clear for the Bank of Canada to cut interest rates. Logic would say the worst is over, however it all depends on how aggressive the Bank of England get on rate cuts aswell.
Hope that helps.

Wow - nearly 2.04 - I really feel for those that panicked and converted when it hit rock bottom a couple of weeks back. It just goes to show you can't predict it, I was certain it was going to continue lower.

Re: Exchange rate
Well up into the 2.04's today, presumably on the news that OPEC might up production - oil is down a bit as a result.
Entirely predictable of course, I moved some money across last week which is always a rock-solid indicator the rate will subsequently improve
