now i trust nobody's advice, least of all my own! i am feeling so profoundly powerless as apparent morons twiddle the numbers and botch the books for gawd knows what motive.:curse: i am a slave to the exchange graphs and the temporary joy / terror they provoke.... and this is quickly becoming the worst aspect of this. I think i shall just sort out my new accounts on the Canada side, move my dosh and never look at another chart again. don't think... feel! |

Re: Exchange rate
^^^not that you're really interested though, right?
|
Re: Exchange rate
Curious yes.
I have no cash so cant benefit or lose from the rate. Just interesting to see such wild fluctuations. M. |
Re: Exchange rate
benefit.....? its funny but i feel victimised by it!:frown:
I hear that some bank accounts will automatically exchange your funds from one currency to another (with your prior consent) when rates hit a predetermined figure? Seems suspiciously painless. I guess you need to hold one account for each currency within the same bank eh? |
Re: Exchange rate
You can put a "stop" on a currency exchange - if the rate drops to or rises to one of the levels you have stipulated, the transaction will automatically proceed when it hits either level that you chose.

Re: Exchange rate
okay... that sounds useful.... thanks for the terminology too.
do you know if this is something most / all banks do? would i need two accounts in a single bank, one in £ the other in $? (or does this depend on the bank itself) sorry to assume you (or anyone reading) are some kind of financial wizard.... i should probably speak to the damn bankers, but i hate their relentless sales pitch (not to mention the automated answer machines, which cause you to be passed to about 5 different departments before you find the answer you seek):curse: i might just gold and shove it under the matress! |
Re: Exchange rate
If memory serves me right HSBC have the facility to have both sterling and CAN $ accounts and are preferred by many forum members - I wouldn't do a currency trade through them though as the rates are apparently not as good as you can get elsewhere...
... I'm sure if you read back through this topic for a few pages or so you'll find recommendations for firms with the best rates, and you can then do a bit of research and hopefully find the best current deals. M. |
Re: Exchange rate
£1 = $1.85 1/2 now BTW
|
Re: Exchange rate
yup.... it's been one of those micro roller coaster days today:
open: 1.8331 low: 1.8329 High: 1.8598 current: 1.857 according to www.advfn.com should i be noticing a (not even) 3 cents variation in a day? i feel like such a uber nerd! |
