The UK and the US governments can't afford the rate rises let alone households - their has been talk of so-called bond vigilantes forcing the issue for years; but they've done nothing so far.
Haven't the Fed and BoE been buying up most of the US and UK government bonds in the last year or so, because no-one else wanted to? I'm sure I read recently that the Fed now has about 5x as much in US bonds as the Chinese. |
