Andrex, what luxury, dusty and all ! Do they still have that gawd awful San Izal shiny stuff ? Almost like greaseproof paper ! I remember that stuff as a kid. Interesting that we have toilet seats inbound and toilet paper outbound. Different strokes for different folks eh !
It did feel good to be 'exporting' stuff for once rather than giving him a list of things to bring .... still they'll make a nice cheap Christmas present this year (and fairly light to post)

And yes, they do still have that shiny stuff ... I remember my gran putting that in the outside loo but that was years and years ago - who on earth still uses it??

I know there is a post on this somewhere but I couldnt find it AGAIN
I have freinds that have moved there just 6 wks ago and they are moving back again as they said it really wasnt what they thought it was.
High insurance, lack of facilities in the electronic front. lack of DIY materials. Costly TV/Cable...etc this list is endless....
Just wanted to get feedback on anyone that went there and thought WTH was I thinking, or have gone there and thought that but got very used to it and started to like it.
Any shocks along the way or anything that you would find that Canada is behind.
Hey any stumble stories would be great to read...
Thanks

)The reason things are difficult in life is to weed out those without the stamina, character to reach the goal! So I guess this is the same.

Troll alert.
Stuff like like this could've been discovered by an afternoon of research. Boring.

See everyone was as surprised as I was.
It is a bit serious moving after 6 wks....
My understanding is, they havent been there before and did all the research via internet. Sold everything lock stock and barrel and within 2 wks bought a house. The house was a wreck but they didnt know that at the time and now is spending money on fixing it up to sell.
The have teenagers who wont have the chance to start school and are hoping to sell up and shift out befor the school term in Sept.
I have tried to convince them to stay but they think that Canada is backward and lacks a lot of the likes of internet shopping. They dont like that when they complain to the Canadian that their country is lacking in supplies that they get shut off
They think the Canadians are too friendly
I suppose I was just wondering if anyone had gone through anything that shocked the lives out of them.
I have been many times on recces and wouldnt be moving without the knowledge of the country in some way or other so I just want to hear about any stumble stories that anyone has had and thought that it wasnt what they were expecting...Anything I should be aware of. We are moving to the Toronto shortly and if anyone has anything to offer, stories or anything to watch out for that I might have missed whilst there.

Well, although we are still in the UK we haven't had a TV for 6 years, live 5 miles from the nearest pint of milk and all our (close) friends live between 125 to 300 miles away
Looks like Canada is right up my street

If there's one product that deserves a boycott it's Charmin. The television adverts with the bear and the message than "less bits flake off and get stuck in your arse" is revolting and extremely unlikely to be true; the product of a diseased imagination. Every roll purchased puts more images of cracks encrusted with wet filth on prime time television. Buy some other brand.

Hmmn, doesn't sound right to me. All bells and whistles at £17.50 ? Not a chance. Although it is cheaper mine is £67 but its not much cheaper and the quality of the services are better in Canada. Its the old addage, you gets what you pays for

You can get the basic SKY package for £17.50 but if you have all the sports/movies and HD on top it is £55 IIRC. Broadband with SKY adds £5 on top and ESPN (formerly Setanta) adds another £10 on top.
Works out at about £70 the month which is everything apart from the phone line that is done through BT.

Over time I've got used to the way of living here and it's okay but I'm just not really all that happy here and I'd prefer to move back in a perfect world.
But we're established here and a move back isn't the easiest thing to do but maybe we'll do it at some point. It would have been a lot easier to do after six weeks but who'd think of moving back after six weeks?

We had all of the above when we are in the UK and the price was very comparable to what it costs in Canada. (From memory Canada was slightly cheaper) I doubt very much that prices have come down that much.
