Mrs J, do you know for sure that this woman has the means to fly over here for a doctor's appointment? It's all well and good us evangelists knowing the answer
but just to see Dr B doesn't come cheap, never mind flying in to do so and with all its associated costs.
If you're sure she's not just avoiding the cost issue, maybe you/me/we can offer her a bit of support and promise to meet her here?
BTW I got 21 bucks back from my top level health insurance for my last visit to Dr B
The administrator was almost embarrassed to compute it and showed me the manual to prove it was correct.

Better than a kick in the teeth.

I'm up for offering to help too. I just can't see how she can get decent treatment in Tassie - there doesn't seem to be anything online. There doesn't seem to be much of an option for her.

I'm chuckling away here at the thought of a Thyroid Chick Meetup - we'd all forget the date/time/venue.

I'll have to set the reminder on my phone!! I usually set it the day before an event, and the morning of it 'just to make sure'! lol
I've also got a reminder for the school run at the moment...'just in case'

Hi everyone,
I am joining this thread very late, and have to admit I didn't have a spare week to read all the previous posts.
Anyway, I am here on a student visa, have been since Feb. Obviously I have been avoiding Drs etc as I don't want anything which might have a negative affect on getting PR at the end of my course.
BUT, it has just occured to me, that I could have symptoms of an under active thyroid. My Mum, Grandma, Great Aunt all have it. I was tested once about 15 years ago and was fine, but it has just clicked that many things I have had could be symptoms.
In the last year I have put on weight, although my eating has not changed. I have gone up a clothes size, and most of the weight has gone to my stomach, giving me a pregnant look (to the point that a couple of people have asked
). I had assumed this was because I am getting older and your body changes (I'm 29).
I have always had a very sharp mind, until about a year and a half ago when I started forgetting things, even what I am saying sometimes. I had put that down to the stress of coming out here.
I have been peeing more often, also assumed due to age.
I can often feel very tired when not having done much (put down to being unfit).
So does this sound like I need to get a blood test? Would this have any impact on getting PR? I have a year before I apply.
Thanks very much for any advice.

Even if you are found to have a thyroid condition it will have absolutely no impact whatsoever on your PR application. Most of us on here had a thyroid condition prior to our application

Hey ladies
I've just read on a diet/thyroid website that taking a sauna is good for those of us that have hypothyroidism. It was just a suggestion there was no evidence to support it or a reason why that a sauna would be good for us. Anyone else heard of this or can tell me why it would be a benefit?
Cheers lovelies

So apart from the obvious, warming, metabolism boosting, it seems it does affect T3.
Interesting. I will have to find a sauna. Thanks for the heads up!

Take a bottle of water in and drink as you go otherwise you'll dehydrate. If you do that, half an hour is ok.

So now i have decided that i had better write it down in case it happens again.
That's the first time that one has happened.
