You can get gluten free flour in packets. BUT... and you're going to love this.... it's usually much more absorbent and you need to alter your amounts in your recipes, so there's a lot of messing around and experimenting.
Here's a site I like:
http://www.kosherceliaccookery.com/g...lourfacts.html
If I'm cooking I use a mix of rice flour, potato flour and buckwheat if needed. I mix it about a third each. It's possible to cook perfectly normally using these flours, you just have to find out how.
Gluten free bread does not taste the same as regular bread you buy and make so I warn you now!

You might just want to stop eating it full stop. I find it easier.
This is a great blog, but be careful as it's from the US.... so measurements are a little different...

It's really trial and error.
White Wings do a gluten free flour. There are others too usually in the health section in Coles.
You can get lots of gluten free biscuits, Arnott's rice cookies are nice.
I find that mostly I cook gluten free, esp for my kids. They obviously have regular bread and wraps for their lunches. Go the least hassle way... just make the same for everyone.
Basically, gluten is in flour, and grains. Porridge has gluten, rice has no gluten (in theory) though some companies coat their grains with flour to make them 'non stick' so make sure all your packages say 'gluten free'
Gluten is the stuff in the grain that makes bread stretchy and springy. You can experiment with adding Xantham gum (get it from health food stores or Coles) to recipes to get this springy texture. Without it, cakes and bread tend to be crumbly.
Bake gluten free friands... YUM! Make with almond meal and a little rice flour.
You can have your cake and eat it.

They can eat gluten free if they want. It won't harm them. With I think now, 3 out of 4 people having a wheat intollerance, it might be good for them to eat g free.

I cant eat rice as i have acid-reflux and it gets stuck in the throat.
But apart from that i can give the rest a try.
I think that cooking is going to become a night mare.

Hi
Just wanted to say thank you to TiddlyPom for giving me the details of Dr. Ludka Berkowski just got back from seeing her and she was brilliant started me on a much high dose of Armour well three times as much and DHEA,
Did her Thyroid test on me and i have the worst results she has ever seen and could not believe my GP in England had just left me like it for the last 15 years (my GP back in England had me on 125-200mg of levo thyroxine a day depending on how bad i felt each day) So I am hoping i will start to feel better very soon.
Thanks again Kerry

Hi Guys,
Well, I just back from seeing the endocrinologist......he said my case was very interesting
He says my bloods say that I should be suffering some really nasty side effects of hypothyroidism...but I have none. My TSH is 23, my Free T4 is 5.9, but my free T3 is normal....now he seems to think that my normal T3 is compensating for my low T4 hence my lack of symptoms...so he thinks that I may be producing an antibody that is blocking the T4 receptor.....anyway, he has ordered another page of blood tests which should confirm this.....so watch this space.Tan
Oh, but the way...he says the itching I'm describing is due to my madness...

Let us know how you improve or whatever ... it would be really good to hear your experience now you're on Armour.

Your TSH is huge, but like you say the rest is not so bad... But he sounds like he knows what he's talking about so far which is encouraging for you.

I think the itching is probably due to your dodgy blood results, but that's just me. I'm a bit biased.

Tell us know how you get on.

To update with Nic's current situ.
Had tests done the other day and got results back. She see GP today and altho her TSH is still low, he was happy that her T3 & 4 are looking good! ...
No sign of any weight dropping, but she's certainly had a lot more energy of recent.
She's off to see the doc Donna (I think) recommended tomorrow. She's also 6 weeks into a long wean off her anti D tabs (down to 25% of the tab) so all is going really well ...
Anyway,
TSH - (mIU/L) 0.18 (0.35 - 5.50)
Free T4 (pmol/L) 13.3 (9.0 - 25.0)
Free T3 pmol/L) 4.3 (3.5 - 6.5)
Told to stick on 100mcg a day for now.
