That one short, highlighted, paragraph, covers a period when Conservative policy caused more, and more sustained, damage to the heavy enginering part of East Manchester than the Luftwaffe managed. A huge swath of the city lost its 'reason to be' and has not recovered to this day.

I think what wound people up about the daughter is that after the remark rather than apologizing she laughed it off and made it out as if she couldn't understand what people were complaining about.

It wasn't being subsidized to begin with. It was the combination of excessively high interest rates, an artificially high pound and having to compete against German and French companies that WERE government backed that wiped it out.

It crosses my mind whether it's bad management which is screwing industry rather than it not being viable.
The company I worked at for a bit had the philosophy of not training its technicians because they'd just want more money. In fact they didn't like training anybody and would always find an excuse - 'oh you want to go on a software course, well if we would want a software engineer we'd just hire one'. Of course that just meant that the end product was s**t.

Well I've just had a quick scan through the thread, and I see you called a 3 times elected Prime Minister a dictator?
She was a strong willed woman who didn't suffer fools gladly. MAybe if she was a man it would have been more acceptable to you.
Don't know why you translate that as a dictator. Try Stalin, Hitler, Pinochet, Mao, no majority ever voted for them.
And what are these 10 republicans you mentioned? They wouldn't happen to be terrorists that killed lots of innocent people by any chance?
Honestly, I can't figure out what you are on about, only that you have a disproportionate hatred of an old lady.

Well I hate to rain on you parade but Thatcher never had the majority of the population vote for her. If you look at the popular vote the most she ever got was 43.9% in 79 it went down every subsequent election (42.4 in 83 and 42.2 in 87). So I think you should agree that she wasn't exactly voted in by the wishes of the majority only by the British voting system could deliver that kind of result.

Well, I'm sorry if your family suffered. But I can only imagine how.
Personally I grew up in Northern Ireland, so I now have a friend who is deaf because a bomb went off next to him. I have another friend who's dad is crippled because a lampost exploded next to him. And I personally have missed dying twice by a few metres, once when a pub blew up as I was leaving, and another time when when the car in front of me exploded killing the guy in it.
As you can imagine, I'm not a fan of SinnFein/IRA.
In comparison to Maggie Thatcher, theres alot of people higher on my list of people who should die. And they are in government now.

More people voted for her than any other single party, what part of that confuses you?
