Streaming video - my experience

I have had a fair bit of success using Hola in Chrome for BBC stuff - Though I find it doesn't seem to work on Canadian content.

Cheapest and simplest solution:
Get a Samsung Blu-ray player with Smarthub - about $150 for the cheapest
Get a DNS redirect service - about $40 a year. I use Smartydns
Change the DNS settings on your router or the Samsung
Set up the Samsung with UK apps - plenty of info online and really easy to do
You've now got BBC, ITV, C4, C5 etc
Easy peasy japanesy

Yes. I could buy one complete but I wanted to do a father/son project
Actually we're building 5:
An all bells and whistles 450 class quadcopter camera platform using commercially available components
2 racing 250 class FPV quadcopters
2 scratch-built, cheap ass wood and/or aluminium quadcopters - basically using stuff you can buy at Bunnings or can find around the house. Might build more than 2 actually
I started earlier this year but uni was taking too much time. When I finish Corporate Finance in a few weeks we'll get back on them. Should have a couple up and running by mid-December

New Apple TV Review: Is This It?
Is this it ... the new Apple TV feels overpriced and underwhelming.

You can change the DNS setting on your router or on the Samsung - your choice. Some devices - Chromecast for instance - do not allow the DNS settings to be changed. You need the Samsung - or some other device - to be able to connect to your TV

I certainly like the tip about the Samsung player with DNS redirect. I didn't know that you can just set up the DNS directly on the Sammy just as easily as in Apple TV.
Then again doesn't the Apple TV have similar apps for running those channels?

I can redirect the DNS on my Samsung TV so no need for the blue ray.

The benefit of having a samsung tv and bluray is you can set one to aussie DNS, and one to US - and have the appropriate set of apps and catchup services available.

Apple TV is getting better but for hardcore streamers like me it's not a great option
