Hello
My name is Natalie and I am the Brit. I am in Sydney on a temporary spouse visa.
I met my husband backpacking in 2002, 4 days after arriving in Australia. I was 18, he was 19. After I returned to England we applied for the prospective marriage visa in june 2004, and it was granted in July 2004. We got married in November 2004 and I applied for my temporary spouse visa the following January. My two years has now been up and last week we sent off our paper work for the permanent visa and now we wait!

I was a Backpacker too!Maybe we should start a `Backpackers Thread`!!!!!!!!!!!!.I met someone the other day who laughingly said `I thought those backpacker marriages were just for womens magazines!`LOL

Hey guys. Never done this before. have joined thread without even asking, Sorry but thought that is how you reply??? Always confused. I am an Ozzy taking my OH and our 3 kiddys back to OZ. Twins boys aged 4 baby girl 1. Have applied 4 Visa, just awating the answer. V worrid as i have lived in the UK almost all my adult life. We are moving to Canberra, not quite as exciting as Brissy. Keep getting cold feet. Trying to selll house etc. OH has great job lined up. Hoping to start in May. No idea which suberb to live. Any ideas?

Me being the Aussie part of the equation.....I spent my childhood years in Canberra and loved it. Was there from about age 3 till age 11, then we moved to Sydney. We lived in Giralang (which is North Canberra) near Belconnen. I went to school in Watson. I have many friends that still live there and I would recommend the following areas: Nicholl, McKellar, Giralang, suburbs near Cockington Green (new suburbs near Nicholl).....also Manuka & Kingston although these are relatively expensive. Everywhere though is close to Civic (which is what they call the town centre)......good luck!

I got the medical refusal on Thursday, and sent in my response and supporting papers on Friday, so it should have got there yesterday. All I can do now is wait (fingernails now down to the second knuckle!!!)
I have never intended taking my son with me, he is profoundly learning disabled, no language, doubly incontinent, autistic and clinically hyperactive. I signed him into voluntary care 5 years ago, and he has a home for life in a wonderful place in Exeter (the owner has written it into her will that the existing residents have a home for life) where he is very happy. His father is not my current OH and has taken on the active parent role, with the help of a huge extended family to help him out (where were they when the marriage broke and I was doing it on my own??? but thats another story) I have evidenced this, so all I can do is hope that the Aus. HC belive me.
Everything crossed!!!!!!

Hmmmm, I might have to wait for the dresses and bikini outings until I can get my 'Oz body' sorted out. (might take a good 6 -12 months of triathalon training). How about shorts and a corked hat to begin ?

We have just been made and offer for our house. (a little hooray) We haven't heard back for the Meds yet that were sent to oz for a 2nd opinion. So we might sell our house and then get turned down. YIKES. We are trying to tee it all up together so we can get there for my husbands job that starts in May. What do you think?

BTW - forgot to add. Another fantastic website for property (rental or buying) is www.domain.com.au
I used that website when I lived in Oz....and am using it this time round too. Brilliant.

They have said they were great. Also we have just had them over for a quote and they said we only need a 20foot container. where as Interdean said we needed 40. So we would have had loads of space.
Just to let you know that OZ are v picky on outdoor stuff, old wood and fridge freezers. So that narrows it down. Oh yeah also dishwasher.
