This was the same day I decided that I wanted to see more of the world, and realised that the UK would be a handy springboard into Europe; indeed, next year I shall visit Kiel (Germany) where my father was born.

This was the same day I decided that I wanted to step outside my comfort zone (where I had been stuck in a rut for far too long).

And it was the same day that I decided to sell my house and purchase an investment property, to keep myself in the Australian property market... ready for the day when I return home Down Under.

And most surprisingly, it was a Tuesday. :D

Well take the advice you are so fond of handing out on this board and piss off home as fast as possible. As you so obviously represent the worst excesses of the arrogant Australian stereotype your presence in the UK is doing untold damage to your countries image .

Some poms have the banter and some don't.

i can t ever remember an english person to a black person to their face ''you soap dodgin nigger ,like they do with ''soap dodgin pommie idot'' like they do here .As far as im concerned its aracial slur ,and all those that use it to describe themselves are doing nothing but kowtowing to those that use it ,so they feel they fit in with the acceptable redneck society in australia .Each to their own ,but i dont like it personally .

I've noticed this too, English people do tend to disguise offense with scarcasm like it's the best wit in the world and some sort of yardstick. People often confuse use of irony/dryness with scarcasm. I don't do scarcasm but I certainly do dry/irony - too much for my own good at times - I'm deadpan to the point where people think I am being deathly serious... some of the best Enlgish humour is infact, I think, subtle irony certainly not scarcasm.

Its another reason why I find Australian humour very close to my own and why sometimes I think alot of English people are misunderstood. Scarcasm backfires very quickly, and if you're aggressive too, well!

Er, I beg to differ. Vash has demonstrated a great respect, and even academic, interest for the UK (although he doesn't necessarily want to live where he is in the midlands) and actually has done alot for the 'Aussie in the UK'. You couldn't be further from the truth!!

If his portrayal of Australians as arrogant wankers has done a lot for the Aussie in the UK then I would have to agree with you.

the english media might be ,but the english population couldnt give a ratsarse .You only got to look at the parks in the uk to see cricket isnt the most popular of sports .
Australia has an overinflated ego when it comes to itself just like the americans they think the whole world will stop if they wernt around when in reality they are no different to anyone else on the planet .
Any body that knows their history will realise that just about every tin pot nation wants to beat england at sport because of the colonial past and they want to beat the big bad wolf .
Australia has to anchor on to something as it really hasnt grown up as a nation yet and lack cultural identity [aborigines excluded],so they anchor on to sport ,whereas i believe the english population in general would rather watch the outcomes of a murder on coronation street that watch the painfull long winded test match ,or even better just go down the local and have a few jars.

That just sounds like you are tempting to wriggle out...I just think you are plain wrong. Sure, Vash likes to point out mistakes in his sometimes, I would have thought, to some people, methodical and 'stickler' way, but his motives seem conscientious and sincere, whereas you've come over as a w&nker yourself at times.

says it all, really. :p

Most countries that I have visited have their own identity however 'new', quaint or otherwise. I think Australia has much more identity than the US, is far more selfware and the lack of identity accusation has always been a cliched accusation from anyone who would rather be somewhere else or is disgruntled. If you go to some more rural neighbourhoods or speak to educated Australians you'd be surprised that they don't all conform to stereotypes and can often reconcile the BBQ/sport thing with other more serious diversions. It's one of the things I like about the country - a bit of mix but all accessible.

It never ceases to amaze me, someone moves to the wrong suburb, city, mixes with the wrong crowd, regrets a move for personal reasons, and all of a sudden it's an entire nation's fault..

So that's it, he is just being methodical and a stickler, when he tells people to get their arse out of the country

I won't waste anymore time on that prick..

Look, l tell you now - Vash doesn't just throw stuff around like that for anyone you know. He felt he had reason...

Dear me, looks like I've been misquoted yet again.

To "the creature" - I didn't tell you to get your arse out of the country. You already told everyone (in another thread) that this was your intention.

I merely said that I hoped you would be leaving sooner, both for your sake and everyone else's. The original post is here, if you want to check it.

As for "untold damage" to my country's image; sorry, but I just don't think I'm that influential. Thanks for the compliment, though. Perhaps I won't turn down that interview with The Times after all. ;)

If you want to cry "arrogance" when somebody stands up to your rabid attacks on their country, that's your call. I think it's a bit childish, but hey; suit yourself.

Just be aware that not everyone will share your reality - including fellow Poms.

Got a problem with my posts? There's a simple solution. The "Ignore" button is easily identified and quite user-friendly.

Fill ya boots.

Show me the rabid attacks on your country... I said it was dull. If you see that as a rabid attack then those chips on your shoulders are beginning to interfere with your vision.
