Hello All

Hope everyone is well.

Submitted my state sponsored visa online a few weeks ago so hopefully Melbourne, here I come.

One question to fellow loners, how are you getting your stuff over there?
I don't need a crate as I'm going to leave the furniture in the flat and rent it out. Anyone got any idea how much airfreight is? Would like to take my golf clubs and my computer but may flog them if its too expensive.

Gday peeps,

Congrats pony on the masters.

Bluesnose - cost me about £500 to ship my stuff - bike/surfboard/couple of suitcases/boxes of books/hifi/speakers etc (ends up being more than quotes once you add insurance - leaving furniture behind too - I found anglopacific and freedom were about best but all pretty similar).

Airfreight is f#cking heeps more expensive, so I just decided to send one suitcase that way and wait for the rest on the boat. If you're willing to pay a bit more for a BA flight then you may actually save some cash by organising extra luggage with them for £60 per bag - check this before you book it though as I was gutted - I booked qantas thinking they were the same but their freight depts aren't linked.

And generally - heading off pretty soon and will be in Sydney from 19th July so if anyone's heading over around that time would be great to catch up for a beer or two.

Good luck. Jay

Do a google search mate, there are loads of firms that ship tea chests and different sized boxes on a per box basis by air or sea. Get a few quotes.

Hi Bluenose,

Yep totally agree with MT, BA is the way to go. Just booked my flight to Sydney and paid for 3 extra cases @ £60 each....absolute BARGAIN other airlines want £30 for every extra kilo. Each case can weigh upto 23kg.

Check with BA first.

Also can recommend The Excess Baggage Company as I got some very cheap quotes there. One tip if you can get them to ship to Melbourne Airport and pick your gear from there, I can save around £100 by doing this at sydney AP.

mention British Expats I think (maybe wrong) you get a discount.
