Travelling solo is probably the best way as it makes you talk to other people and you therfore learn more. Having been an excruciatingly shy teen full of wanderlust I set out to backpack round the world with a couple of girl friends. Six months later, half way round the other girls decided to go back to jobs etc but I continued alone.Terrified at first. However once travelling solo I met oooooodles of others doing the same and I realised that having travelled with the friends we mainly spoke only to each other as we had no need for other company whereas on my own I made efforts to speak to others .Some of the fellow travvellers met on that trip almost 20 yrs ago are still amongst my best friends today. Take heart,be brave and have lots & lots of fun. You will not be alone.

Hi Wilgar,

Totally agree...

I always relied on girlfriends and friends to travel with. Eventually they all either settle down, or have different aspirations, or do not have the will or cash to travel.

I decided to go it alone a few years back and you are right, you make the effort to meet people when travelling. Often I felt a bit of a prat tring to strike up conversation but generally people are friendly and welcoming.

Next challenge is to actually live the Ozzy life rather than just "travel through".

Hi Essex Neil
Are you a girl or a boy???????????????????
Glad you feel the same, but I never feel a pratt starting conversation as ( I speak a lot of nonsence anyway) as people are usually pleased you have initiated a conversation.

Lots of luck with your new life.
