Well yes. In a secular democracy. We could always introduce Sharia law? That way it would remain verboten.

Can you tell me exactly how you would go about getting a minister to go against his beliefs and FORCE HIM to marry a gay couple?
For that matter why do you think its OK to force people to go against their own beliefs.

We are approaching dodgy ground - because someone has a belief to do something, then it is ok?

I don't think people should be forced to go against their beliefs but technically it's possible as the church isn't in charge of law making. If it was made law by parliament then those vicars refusing to do their duty will have to line up at Centrelink.

Many places whether religious or work have their own preferred beliefs and if it wasn't for equal rights and anti discrimination laws those rights would still be abused today. Business has been held to account with laws in place to no longer be able to discriminate. The church on the other hand hides behind religion to excuse its bigoted, judgmental, old fashioned and antiquated beliefs to get away with this outdated and no longer acceptable behavior.

What people seem to be suggesting is that the Faiths be forced, by law, to put thousands of years of belief behind them.

Take one step forward the first politcian who wants to take that on... and what would the chances of that same rule being imposed on Islam?

EXACTLY!

Just because some biggoted church leader believes his way is the right way, doesn't mean he is right.

I'm sure many companies felt that way when the law took them on and told them to change their ways....

KFC and the Catholic Church are hardly similar entities.

A bit like saying stoning is no longer acceptable you mean? Just because it's been practiced in the past doesn't mean it's right for the future

Who's talking about Islam? Countries that practice Islam are even more backward than the churches of the western world

Except as I've said they'd probably get an exemption from anti discrimination law just like they do now.

Unlike yourself of course... who KNOWS that your way is the right way. Just because you think it's 'right' doesn't mean it is either.

I think you might find they are. Except religion seems to take a high and mighty approach and get away with it

Hypocrits and judgmental biggots, that's religion for ya
