[QUOTE=Dorothy;7517388]The dietitian I saw was telling me about a client who had the band but managed to gain weight with it. Instead of choosing the right foods she only chose high fat, high calorie choices and didn't bother to exercise.

Thank you so much Pen. Carole is really my role model and because I see her on a semi-regular basis I have got some really good advice about what to expect and how to keep on track later down the line.

I have to say it's been really good having all you other bandits on here. Now I know who to ask if I have a problem. Right now the only issue I seem to have is that I can't tell when I'm hungry until I get the gas pain in my shoulder and start to burp. I'm also having a bit of trouble getting enough water/other liquids. I can manage the 1/2 cup of nutritious liquids 6x daily but another 2 litres of water on top of that means I've constantly got a drink! My breakfast now consists of 1/2 cup Sustagen, 1/2 cup black coffee and 1/2 cup water with 2ml Metamucil mixed in. YUMMY!!
It looks like you have done/are doing all of the right things. I'm sure the results will be dazzling for you Dorothy. Good luck with it

Hope you all do well. I for one am very happy even though I was not as bad as some my BMI was 40ish before starting and is now 27-28 and I have gone from morbid obeses to just pain overweight.

My BMI was 53 and is now down to a much nicer, although still morbidly obese 40. I still have a long way to go but the benefits I am now feeling are spurring me on. My step mum sent me some clothes for my birthday which are UK 18s and while that is massive for most people, I am just made up with that. Normal clothes from normal shops, not fat shops.

You still have to work at it though. I do 1/2 hour on the treadmill each day as well.

Dorothy you will feel better everyday and welcome to the lapband world. Need any help let me know.

NB you are doing fantastic, keep up the good work.

Fantastic results Sunshine I think most people think that we are going to drop a dress size a week once banded

That is low. I currently have 9ml in my 12ml band and feel that I am at the right level for me although I still do have some pukey moments if I eat too quickly!

Just a quick update here. I'm now 11 days post op and feel absolutely great. My incisions have mostly healed; only the big one where the port is is still bruised and itchy. I discovered that I'm allergic to the steri strips and when I took them off my stomach was a mass of red welts where the tape had been. Even they have pretty much cleared up now though.

Besides the weight loss I feel generally better all over. I used to get really bad swelling in my ankles but since the op my shoes are too big because the swelling is almost completely gone! I think it's mostly due to not eating anything with preservatives and no junk food. I'm slowly getting on to food and can say with hand on heart that I'm so bloody sick of Sustagen/Optifast that I never want to see it again.

Oh, and by the way, I'm down 7.4 kg as of this morning.

It's good to read that you are recovering nicely.

The steri strips... Are they made of the cloth type material? One of my sons get a bad reaction to those.

7.4 hg in 11 days! That's excellent!

Fantastic news Dorothy, glad you are reaping the benefits already.

I was OK with the steri-strips but was terribly allergic to whatever was in the sticky stuff that attached me to the heart monitors. Same type of thing as you, so bad its scarred me.

Yeah, the ECG leads left perfect circle shaped scars too. I forgot to tell the hospital I'm allergic to adhesives.

Was wondering how you were doing, Dorothy - glad to hear it's all good!

(Well apart from the allergic reactions I can't even keep a hospital plaster on more than about 15 mins.)

Ive not read all this thread, but i just wondered if any one had had a lap band done in the UK if they can offer any advice. As im on around a bmi of 35 im on the lower scale for a lap band and im currently looking at different companies who are in the Yorkshire region. ive contacted Surgicare and wondered if anyone had any views on this company.
Thanks

Hi,
I had the lap band 18months ago and totally regret it. I paid for the op and have had minimal success.

Why? I also paid myself. I am down 32kg in 12 months. I have had a hard few months where very little weight has been shifted but am back to it to with renewed motivation. Why do you feel it hasn't worked for you? Can any of us help you?

I had mine done in August this year and for me its been the best thing i ever did, so far ive gone from nearly 97 kg down to 79.6 kg. Down 2 dress sizes.
I did go a few weeks where i lost nothing prior to the first fill when i went on to solids.
Ive finally got the energy to exercise again, started of slowly with lots of walking, now i do aqua fit once a week as well and after the kids go back to school i am starting to got to a spinning class and gym session.
The only time i told feel as though the band is working is if ive eaten the wrong food on the odd occasion and not exercised.
NB and Dorothy have been my role models
Mandy
