Well done NorthernBird! I have only just discovered this thread I seem to stick in one thread here! I had Lap-Band surgery in September and have lost 15kgs, I have only just found restriction on my last fill two weeks ago, and now I am actually having to learn to eat slow or it is very painful. Still having trouble eating the 'right' foods though and cravings are hard to beat. Ice-cream and other diary foods are my downfall.
If anyone is interested I started a Lap-Band forum as the only one's around seem to be Yahoo groups and they aren't as easy to navigate as forums are. It is still new and we need some members that are willing to be chatty. If you sign up I have to activate you before you can post (this helps avoid the spammers) but I get on to it pretty quick.

My head is swelling! Thanks ladies for all your kind comments, they really do help boost the self confidence. I am now in double digit weight which to all you slim peeps won't be a big deal but to me its like winning the lottery. I haven't been the weight I am since before my youngest was born so about 6 or so years. Thanks again

Teabag, noticed your in Tas...I'm assuming Wilko did the surgery? I've assisted him a few times, and he's an excellent surgeon.
Actually all the lap band people in Tassie are pretty good.

Yes Wilko did mine. Very simple, no optifast or psych appts. I peobably never would have got to the surgery stage if so, which is probably a good test if your up for the committment I guess but it's done now.

My surgeon said I didn't have to do Optifast, either. I do have to see a dietitian before, but I'm glad of that. I'm really a bit of a fussy eater, so seeing someone who can help me with what to eat that I will actually like will be really helpful. I have a real problem with texture more than taste, so the mushy pureed phase is going to be very difficult for me. Thankfully Northernbird has given me some really good hints as to what she ate and I think I can do most of it.

As Dorothy has now joined the land of the band I thought we should resurrect this thread and update.
I am now 6 months post surgery and am 26kg lighter. Weight loss is slow and steady which I am more than happy with. Feeling better than I have ever done. Managed to tick a few things off my to do list while on holiday so feel great.
How is everyone else doing??

I am so jealous, I am having to wait just now as i just do not have the money for the gap fees even if i can get medicare to cover it. I have been on duromine for 3 months now and lost 13kgs but it is so hard and i have found that even though the dietician said 1460 cals per day - if i go over 1000 i dont lose!
I am so pleased for you though good luck Dorothy hope you are getting on ok post op too

Last time I saw you NB I couldn't believe how great you looked. It's what's kept me going these past 3 days through the shoulder pain, not being able to stand up straight for fear of tearing sutures, having to try to get prune juice down and all the rest.
I'm now on the nutritious liquids and surprisingly 1/4 cup of yogurt is actually filling! My OH bought me some of those little jars of pureed baby food to take to work for lunches - yum; pureed pears. So far I dropped 3 kg in the week pre-op and another 2 since the op.
I really have to give a huge shout out to Joondalup Hospital. They were absolutely fantastic with me right from pre-admission through to discharge. The nurses in the post surgical ward were absolutely run off their feet but treated me as if I were their only patient. Any time I needed something they were there within 5 minutes more than happy to help.
