Agreed. I do think the rose tinteds are required though. Surely they are just a way of seeing your dreams materialise. As long as commonsense prevails in that you (global obviously;) ) realise you are leaving a western country with the problems that come with it, to live in another western country with the same problems you should be fine. Assume for some bizarre reason that Australia doesn't have those same problems you will struggle.

I loved the UK and where I lived. I now love living in Australia and am very much at home where we have settled, but I have swapped a town of about 30,000 vaguely rural, an hour from London but close to the countryside, for a town slightly smaller, vaguely rural, an hour from Brissie and close to the countryside and the beach - swap like for like and you should find your comfort zone. IMO.

The problem is that people come to Australia chasing their dreams. Australia therefore has a lot to live up to, and it doesn't always. For most, it's not a place to be "hacked". For the dreamers, it has a duty to be better, effortlessly.

The UK, on the other hand, has nothing to live up to. It is what it is, and there is nothing to prove. Some people realize only after coming here that the UK is home, warts n all. And many of these people can "hack" Australia and have done very well here. They just don't want to live here anymore.

And so, the point is still valid, its not the Country's problem, perhaps the person(s) should look within themselves. Perhaps they left for the wrong reasons, or perhaps they just dont fit here, could be a million reasons they are not happy. That is all perfectly acceptable and reasonable. But why blame the Country that they chose to move to? I am not being specific here about Australia either. Its any Country that people move to, then decide its not for them and then proceed to belittle, ridicule, pick pieces out of the Country and even so much as patronise, abuse and belittle the people that havent moved yet but are wanting to?? This primarily is my only problem with a select few posters on this forum. Its how they come across to me in their posts, anyway.

I totally see where you are coming from on this one - it is crazy when people take their own personal experience of one (or even a few) place(s) in a country and use that to criticise every aspect of that country - and every person who dares to suggest that there might be some positive sides.
I think that usually on this forum those people make themselves known fairly quickly, and pinches of salt can then be applied where necessary.

and for most I am often applying liberal amounts of said salt...but some...no amount of salt will work and they just push and push and push me until I can be pushed no more....
