I cannot believe Oz is as bad as this.

Hi all.

I first started the visa process in April 2005 and recently had meds and am just waiting now. I was beginning to really question wether or not I want to move to Perth as my life is pretty good here and we have lot's of friends and a good social/family life. We are in our mid thirties and have 2 boys aged 6 and 4.
I live in Milton Keynes which you can feel free to knock but it is generally pretty safe with plenty of parks / lakes and kept very clean. It was ranked the 53rd safest city in a recent survey.

I do not want to post such negative things but these incidents have actually REALLY made me think hard about the U.K unlike any other time before.
It is probably just a spate of events in a couple of weeks but just lately there have been some really nasty attacks.
1.On Friday a week ago a man is left fighting for his life after being beaten with bats and stabbed by a gang of youths at 5 pm at a very busy local centre (shops)on a good estate. It appears it was a dispute over drugs
2.I saw a nasty but not serious road rage incident between 2 youngsters at around 2 in the afternoon ( it could have been an ongoing feud but it was still not nice).
3.Yesterday there was a serious machete or knife attack in Wolverton again in the afternoon around 2.30 pm between 2 rival families.
4.At around 6pm 4 asian youths beat and stabbed another man who has refused to make a complaint so the victim seems to know his attackers.
All this in the last week :scared:

I know this stuff goes on in Australia because I read the West Australian and the Sydney Herald online.
The thing that suprises me abut these incidents is the time of day that they took place. They are nearly always dealers or revenge attacks but people are around with their children e.t.c at this time of day. These tossers have no thought for the people or families that may be around them.

Bad stuff has always gone on in the world for years but I think the U.K really is losing it, something I have never said or wanted to say.

Personally, the motivation for us moving is the kids. What sort of life can they expect. My 10 year old can't leave the house,as I don't trust what's out there.Guns on the street and drive by shootings are the norm in Nottingham! There's no way they'll ever afford a house(probably living with us for the rest of their lives)If they'll clever enough to go to uni, they'll be in debt for the rest of their lives. And for the rest of their lives, they'll be paying into a system, where they'll be bottom of the pile. Rant over!

I can understand you wanting to leave Nottingham as it has a terrible reputation for violence.
However I believe Australian youngsters have similar problems with getting on the housing ladder and uni fees.
It's good to go with your eyes wide open. :)

Here a 2 bedroom grotty terrace will set you back in excess of £100,000.Somewhere around a quarter of a million oz dollars.

It breaks my heart to think of my Grandfather. He fought in WW2, as a sniper. Eventually he was wounded at Caen whilst liberating France after being one of the first to land on the Normandy Beaches alongside US Marines. He (in my opinion) was brave and evrerything that opitimised a gentleman. I have his medals, which he never talked about and never saw until he was dying. He fought for his country so that later generations could live in freedom and saftety, and was lucky not to have made the ultimate sacrifice as so many did. He had to be discharged from the Army after his injuries and lived on just his pension in later years. I think about the UK now and hear the stories from others and feel that the efforts made by him and others have been thrown back in their faces.

We made the decision to leave for our kids sake (and ours to an extent). We felt that we had the responsibility to give them the best life we could and the UK just woul never have allowed it. Something needs to be done to stop this out of control downward spiral in society. No respect, no decency etc. I felt priviledged to know the generation of my grandparents. They were decent, good people and that sadly is all but gone, along with them.

RIP Great Britain !!!

I don't think it's bullshit in the slightest. OK, Queensland has it's bad points, but memebrs of my family in the UK have mentioned on regular occassions how bad it is getting. Guns, knives, etc etc etc. My kids as far as I am concerned are better out of it. What future would they have in the UK ? The engineering and manufacturing industries are more or less dead and buried. They can spend the rest of their lives struggling in an over congested crime spot-I don't think so !!!

No you shouldn't.

Bolton demographic breakdown:
89% White
6.1% Indian
2.5% Pakistani
2.4% other (with no one group exceeding 1%)
(Office for National Statistics, 2001 Census of Population)

whatever! go down Blackburn Road it certainly seems like more than 9% indian/pakistani and they are turning it into a ghetto, 3 mosques within spitting distance of each other and a no-go area for whites at night unless your driving through.

I live in the UK

...and where I am is nothing like that.

If a few losers can't hack it in the Uk they should maybe look at themselves instead of blaming the country:rolleyes:
