I was beginning to really question wether or not I want to move to Perth as my life is pretty good here and we have lot's of friends and a good social/family life. It is probably just a spate of events in a couple of weeks but just lately there have been some really nasty attacks. 1.On Friday a week ago a man is left fighting for his life after being beaten with bats and stabbed by a gang of youths at 5 pm at a very busy local centre (shops)on a good estate.It appears it was a dispute over drugs 2.I saw a nasty but not serious road rage incident between 2 youngsters at around 2 in the afternoon ( it could have been an ongoing feud but it was still not nice). 3.Yesterday there was a serious machete or knife attack in Wolverton again in the afternoon around 2.30 pm between 2 rival families. 4.At around 6pm 4 asian youths beat and stabbed another man who has refused to make a complaint so the victim seems to know his attackers. All this in the last week :scared: I know this stuff goes on in Australia because I read the West Australian and the Sydney Herald online. The thing that suprises me abut these incidents is the time of day that they took place. They are nearly always dealers or revenge attacks but people are around with their children e.t.c at this time of day. These tossers have no thought for the people or families that may be around them. Bad stuff has always gone on in the world for years but I think the U.K really is losing it, something I have never said or wanted to say. The UK, and this is with the benefit of now living in both coutries, does have it's problems but copes with them much better and at least the population accept things are wrong and tries to do the right thing. Here by contrast it's 'she'll be right' and it gets me down far worse than everything thats wrong back home. All the reasons you are wanting to escape the UK are here too, don't delude yourself that they are not or some how better. Leave the UK for some other reason, not the ones you have given otherwise you are in for a sad awakening when you have been here a while. If you personally have a good life in the UK, with good job, house, area, social life, then don't for god's sake come here. Ignore what you hear and read in the UK press, it's all a load of drivel designed to make you feel the way you currently do, and in that regard Australia does indeed feel better. |

I have found that those who come to Australia "for a better life for my children" are the ones who as a general rule find it difficult to settle and those who come here for the change in scenery/adventure are the ones who are not disappointed with their lives.
Australia has crime and illegals just like everywhere else. There are great areas of all the major cities with large southeast asian populations, youth gangs, guns, drugs, etc. We live in a middle class neighbourhood in Adelaide, which is without a doubt the least expensive of all the state capitals and you would be hard pressed to find a 3 bedroom villa on larger than a 350 m2 block here for less than $350k. We also have crime. The week before we moved to this particular suburb, a man was shot in his driveway just a couple of doors down from our house. Police think it was a drug deal, as the victim is not talking and noone has ever been arrested. Two weeks ago someone came up my driveway and stole my son's bike which was chained to our garage while we slept. His bike was no more than 10 feet from where I was sleeping. My point is that this is no utopia. The population of Australia is small and the country is large, so it may seem that crime statistics are lower, but I think you will find that the routine everyday stuff like assaults and burgluries are statistically as high as anywhere. |
