Well talking of all things religious at this most special time of year, what do you lot think about the pope giving everyone time off from purgatory so long as they have a holiday in his holiday town of Lourds?

I wonder if he just made it up or did God tell him to do it?

Was reading this article and thought of this thread. The god botherers have often alluded to the fact that Einstein was a believer. Don't think it's open to debate now, after the contents of this letter have been made public ...
The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. For me the Jewish religion like all others is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions.

That reiminds me of Hawkins book 'A brief history of time' Got to the end of it and wasn't 100% sure if he was proving God's existance or proving his non existance. Anyone else read it?

I started but kept hearing the words as if there were being spoken by him and I couldn't concentrate I prefer Kathy Reichs or James Patterson myself.

I have. I thought it was a bit of a cop out to even suggest a choice.

Have you seen the current Richard Dawkins series debunking other superstitions - astrology, alternative medicine etc. Very entertaining.

I too thought it was a cop out, sounded like he was hedging his bets just in case. No I've not seen the Dawkins thing. Superstition is a good term for religion if you ask me, absolutely no basis in fact, same as that thing where you dilute a chemical down so much there is none of it left but somehow the water has a memory of it. Total bunkum.

He wondered why such remedies would not also have a memory of Oliver Cromwell's urine? Fair point.

An actual Oliver Cromwell quote ... quite fitting I feel ...

I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, think it possible you may be mistaken.
