Impressive rhetoric. But can it translate into workable policies. And does the country have the money it needs to make it happen?

Marvelous that a little riot can bring to the surface the blatantly obvious isn't it?

I guess Cameron is just the poor sucker that found himself in power at a time it kicked off forcing his hand somewhat.

And that's before switching on the power.

Yes I'm aware of the news over there. But there has been no trigger event (that I know of?), so these are merely isolated incidents. They appear to be linked only via the use of certain media to coordinate times, places, etc.

The incidents demonstrate that the potential for mass unrest is very real. Over in the "trailer trash" forum there is a thread talking about the London riots....one poster says something to the effect of "It can't happen here, our police have guns and they shoot unarmed dealers dead, why would anyone riot here?".... Perhaps the post was intended in a sarcastic nature, but I can't help feeling that many Americans have a very false sense of security in this regard.

Over here in Australia, as you would know, in the lead up to bushfire season burn-offs are initiated to prevent a build up of "fuel". Right now across the USA, it seems to me that there is an enormous amount of fuel for the fire, should a trigger event occur and subsequently be widely disseminated online.

Have a look at this article:

There are signs of hope for the U.S. though. The chaos seen in Britain is less likely to occur here, because American cities are generally less segregated than Britain's. In addition, police forces in America have gotten much better at fighting and preventing crime and anti-social behavior.
American cities generally less segregated ?! The last time I was over in the states, rich and poor weren't exactly living side by side in perfect harmony.

They used to bang on about how they would never get attacked by terrorists because no one would dare or get in. Unfortunately 9/11 happened. They're not still naive about stuff are they? - Rhetorical question.
