Ahhhh I've missed BE. I'm safe behind my keyboard and everyone's antagonising me.
Amazulu. You love Perth. I think it's a village full of country bumpkin f**kwits.
Who's right? Who's wrong? Who cares? Neither of us it would seem.
I love you man xxxxxxxxxx

Oasis...probaly the most overated band since U2Thing about the Beatles is that they sounded great live, could actually play their own instruments, could actullay sing, could actually write their own songs....greatest band ever....nuff said.

MP is right in some respects about luck. The Beatles arrived in the 60's, when music was one of the few readily available forms of entertainment for the masses and it had the power to affect people much more than it does today.
That was the only part that involved luck though. Quite simply their back catalogue is untouchable as a body of work in popular music. No one has, or ever will come close to it. Either musically or in the effect on the world.
I can virtually guarantee that every artist you enjoy today will cite the Beatles as an influence.

U2 are bit up themselves (especially Bonio) but have some classic tunes.
The thing I like about music is that good music is good music is good music.

I'll give anything a spin, it's a broad church is my collection ... I even have some Las Ketchup on my MP3 stick in the car ...

Ooh, I'm listening to Sgt Pepper's whilst reading this thread. Great album - the anti-Beatles comments just seem ridiculous with this as the background music! (Although at 33 I am a bit baffled that I might be here on a retirement visa).
Great band with a great producer. And so many bands have used their techniques to write their own songs (Kurt Cobain of Nirvana being my most amusing example).

Few bands that we hold as great today have made an album of that standard and nor will they ever produce an album of that standard. Few artists have it in them to write and record a track like A Day In The Life.
I think people rubbish The Beatles almost in an attempt to set themselves apart from the crowd and sound clever. Show me a band/artist that has written as many all-time classic songs as them.
