Yorkeys looks quite nice but it is a long road down into it from the main highway. You may be better off at Trinity Beach. We are at Trinity Beach and bus route really good. You won't have a problem finding a rental. We got one within a week and my parents have just come out and it's only taken them a few days to find a really nice rental in Clifton Beach.
I hope my questions dont sound too silly!! I have no idea what to expect and want to be as prepared as possible! It is reassuring though to know that it shouldnt take that long to find a rental - i had visions of me staying in a hostel (or somewhere equally as cheap) for weeks on end!! |

Im a loner moving to Cairns and will be looking to rent an apartment when i arrive. Ive been looking on the internet for places close to a bus route (i wont be buying a car any time soon - unless they are cheap to buy and run) and have spotted Yorkeys Knob (Fairweather Street to be precise - i like the name!).
Has anyone had any experience of Yorkeys Knob (please dont give rude answers!! :p) as i have never visited cairns before? Thanks http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...t=yorkeys+knob |

Thanks for that advice. Is Trinity Beach touristy? I know Cairns generally is a tourist town but i'd like to get a true australian feel rather than a bunch of american/uk et al. tourists! I guess anywhere near a beach you will get holiday rentals - is it common for the holidayers (if thats a word!??) to be noisey? - i.e. are the type of people who stay drunken yobs who make loads of noise or are the tourists generally older sensible people? - guess thats impossible to answer really!!

The noisiest area will naturally be the backpacker country which generally is on the Esplanade or main CBD areas. The main holiday beach is Palm Cove followed by Trinity. By that I mean hotels and apartments. Trinity in my view is a smaller version of Palm Cove. If you will have no transport and work in the CBD I would suggest you look for a gated complex apartment close to the city. Bus journeys are not pleasant and can be quite long because of the routes they take. Maybe Shaun can offer you some advice..... http://britishexpats.com/forum/member.php?u=39528 He is a single lad who did a lot of research around the CBD and ended up buying a 1 bed apartment. |

Re: anyone going to or in cairns??
So, anything exciting happening in Cairns recently? I've just been onto cairns government website and there weren't any events listed in the calander - but there must be some...surely!
I went to Leeds city switching on the christmas lights party/event last night - does Cairns have christmas lights? What time does it get dark? if its late then i guess lights are quite pointless! (oh help me lord, i am sooooo clueless about Cairns!) Is there a happy christmas feel? Is there a big christmas tree in CBD with lights and decorations?? |
