We are just about to go onto a bridging visa that will follow onto a skilled graduate visa there is a wait of about 14 months to get the graduate visa and then 18 months on that. In that time my partner has to get a job as a hairdresser work for a year then we can get PR if we go regional it will also make it easier. I have been looking at maybe perth what is the job situation over there at the mo. or maybe a town outside of perth??? i have 2 kids so it would have to be somewhere where we can do stuff with them one is 3 and one is 5 weeks old thanks

You are wrong about 'the law' saying that only Australians can take apprenticeships. You do have to have PR, but that is all.
My husband began his plumbing apprenticeship in Vic when he was 38 and had had PR about 9 months.

People shouldn't be allowed to do apprenticeships unless they are PR at the very least IMO.

THe OP is not getting an apprenticeship and rightfully so. Those spots should be reserved for locals just like Australians shouldn't be taking apprence positions in the UK.

You may get more luck on the hairdresser job. Although I imagine it will still be a struggle on the wages. I've just accepted that we are going to have to spend my savings to stay in Oz long enough to get our PR and then bust a move somewhere else. I'd try Mackay or Townsville - both holes but they are a lot more economically sound than a town designed around tourism.

Look, the guy's obviously distraught and struggling. If you really want to start a fight just go out into the street and punch someone.

If I went to the UK and somehow secured an apprenticeship it would be front page tabloid fodder.

People are struggling in many places atm. Just because you're struggling doesn't mean you should fly to Australia and grab an apprenticeship as a non tax payer you don't deserve IMHO.

Pomster above says you need PR to do an apprenticeship. Can you both verify this please.

Hi David, I remember you first posting and then moving here - your partner posted on here too, I think, and you had a baby? (Oh hell I've just read further down, you have another now!)

Sorry to hear it's not going great for you. IIRC, it was always going to be a risky move, but at least you had the balls to go for it. Hope you manage to find something soon.

Weebie, wind yer neck in.

Apprenticeships costs tax dollars and there are reasons why someone who has just come into the country would struggle to obtain an apprenticeship. Why should anyone other than Australians or PR's who've committed to the country be allowed to get one? obviously as someone has pointed out they can't which is a good thing.

It's good that employers seem to be doing the right thing.

When lots of things go wrong it's easy for life in a country to appear to be past it's sell by date. I thought the OP was going to complain about the country - it seems that the circumstances are trying more than anything else.

reading your previous posts on many other threads you seem to be a very negative person and dont really have anything constructive to say. I do understand where you are coming from with keep the apprenticeships for australians (after all we dont want to end up like the UK) however i have paid A LOT into this ecconemy through various things (oopening a business etc) I wasnt wanting to get a state sponsored apprenticeship. i wanted to pay for it myself and do it privately i dont see any harm in that as i would be putting into the econamy by paying for the course and then working aswell.

Thankyou to the people that have not judged me.

Just because you pay money into the economy doesn't mean you deserve an apprenticeship just the same an Aussie rocking up to London and getting an apprenticeship it's not right. Too many people think that they deserve everything because there "pumping" money into the economy Hello??? it's the only reason many people are able to come here.

I do really wish you the very best of luck though.

As for the people abusing me. It's clear that you are retarded clowns with every trained apprentice costing taxpayers costing tens of thousands of dollars each apprentice...get a grip.

Sorry everyone i am a pom and i need to winge and let off my steam somewhere or i will go crazy.

No one will employ me because im not an Australian errrgggg, so many times we have been in this position. living costs go up EVERYDAY $1.54 for petrol????? food goes up every week. nandos some of there stuff gone up by $3.00 :0 its nearly $18.00 for a lunch there now thats a small drink med chip n a burger. What are they thinking.

I need a bloody job soooooooooo bad i do not want to have to go back to the hell hole of the UK every job i apply for i get a reply saying there only looking for Australian citezens. i have 1 year left on my apprenticeship which i couldnt finish in the UK because i lost my job like everyone else their. I cant finish it here because im not an Australian citezen. I have spoken to everyone i can think of and said let me pay for it myself please i just wana finish it so i can work to support my familly. no luck anywhere. sometimes i wonder what the hell are we going to do next. when will we get a break.

Please dont abuse me because my spelling is wrong or you dont like what im saying. i just needed to vent somewhere.
A Nando's meal of 1/2 chicken, a side and a drink is $17-odd - I know as I had one for lunch today. In the UK, a Nando's meal of 1/2 chicken and 2 sides (drink extra) is about GBP10, or $15.

About the same then and nothing to moan about.

Good luck with sorting your apprenticeship out, although I think they are only open to PRs and Australian citizens.
