I could drop you in parts of Australia which are green, fresh, and fab and you would be hard pressed to know you werre not in England. But most migrants just don't travel, why I have no idea.

Lol, fair enough. I congratulate you on your escape.

Well, I think I'm out Sprintman. Your passionate loathing of SA has me beat!

But you can now say you have finally met a South Australian who has left, seen a bit, and is very happy to get home one day

Alright, I'll bite (again )

Your arguments pretty much rely on exclamation marks..where's the substance? Why should people be swayed by what you have to say if you don't really say anything?

Exactly.

I am Australian-born, and have many Australian family members. Nobody I know can understand why these two destinations are so popular with people from Britain.

They are at the bottom of most Australians' lists of places they would want to be.

Isolation in Australia is very different to isolation in Britain - the distances are massive (and travel is expensive).

Recently I had a German friend come to visit Australia. She hated Sydney, though had allocated quite some time to visit the place. She said that she had not realised Australian cities would not be like European cities (though she probably should have!!). She was not expecting there to be little in the way of cultural activities and attractions. These problems can be solved - more or less - with proximity to other places. Neither Western Australia nor Adelaide offer this.

All the very best to you. Getting up to sunshine in Britain most days, you're very lucky.:D
I know I am, plus the sun is out again today - another lovely Feb day! Blue skies, you would never believe we get that here in the UK do you? Awww well, if thats how you convince yourself its better in Adelaide, i'll leave ya to it.

Very true, when we returned to the Uk last year my brother in law who is Australian said he couldnt understand why on earth we chose Adelaide!

Kangaroo island ,one of the only places in the world ,that has not changed in 40,000 years Yup that just about sums up South Australia for me!

Do you actually have something constructive to say? like the reasons you don't like it here? or the reasons you like where you are now - apart from 'it's a dump'

Maybe if you were more specific people would think you were older than 10...

Sorry, dont agree, we came from a small market town in the north of England, and still found there is more to do here than in Adelaide.

You are missing my point. Nowhere did I comment on where is more interesting or that there's more to do in Adelaide compared with elsewhere in the world. I'm simply commenting on the scale of the place.

Given your ages you can give Adelaide a go for a couple of years and if it doesn't suit move on to somewhere else in Oz, as pompeyblond's in the process of doing.

Yes, give it a go, we did - and you are right, its all subjective. I suppose I have got a bit of a bug to bear because we were given the wrong information about Adelaide from relatives living there - we were lead to believe it was the best place since sliced bread, only to find, that for us it wasnt, and I know that we werent on our own because we made friends with quite a few people who either moved to another state, or back to the UK.

I was not referring to you or your post, I was responding to the OP. My point is if Adelaide doesn't suit them then they can move one elsewhere in Oz later.

Since we left we found out that Adelaide has the highest numbers of individuals moving in and out, more than any other state in Australia. I can totally understand why from our point of view.
An equivalent comment from someone from the UK who lives outside London would be why do all Australians who are in the UK live in London (before I get a witty response from someone who knows an Australian who lives happily in Whitby, please note I am generalising). When I lived in the UK you could not have paid me to live there, but each to their own - I have no problem with the place, but I wouldn't choose to live there.

Come on folks, people are all different and want different things. Does it really matter that some people like it here and others don't. The OP asked for some advice, and many of the posts on here offer little in the way of constructive opinions or dare I say it 'facts'.
