Fortunately nothing bothers me. I was just pointing out that you'd suddenly become a right do-gooder instead of the light hearted pisstaking poster you used to be.
Lighten up a bit.

I fully believe this guy took the easy way out to get money and got caught and has to pay the penalty and should not be compared to people who fought during WW1.

Are you trying to compare some tool who tried to make easy money smuggling drugs around the world and my great grandad who fought for king and country back in the day?

Well said!

Sorry that I stopped entertaining you, this is one thread out of thousands. Kindly afford me the right to have a more serious opinion on this matter, other than my usual "pisstaking" self.
Didnt you know where I was for 18 months before returning to oz ?

I've got no problem with you makibg the odd serious post but you have gone on and on and on and on on this one. You've been sucked into tit-for-tat posts like the people you used to take the piss out of.
Don't know where you were for 18 months before returning to Aus and don't really care either.

I was reading the link and it appears that Singapore is keen to kill Van Nguyen. Having watched Ray Martin last night (which I know is seriously economic with the truth) I was amazed at the number of Australians that didn't care about this poor man's life.

I accept he's an idiot for doing what he did and his mitigating circumstances are pretty poor. And I accept drug running is bad and he should go to jail for a long time. However I do not accept the argument that he knew the law and took the risk. When a country has antiquated laws that bear no proportionality to the crime, then we should stand against it. Execution for this crime is ridiculous and obviously serves no purpose in terms of deterrence. It is purely vengence perpetrated by an inhumane Government that has no value for human life and maintains antiquated values long disposed of by humanitariam nations.

What are your thoughts on this?

Paul.

I wont comment on the wrong or right of his execution as like the Aussie public who were pretty much 50:50 I will sit on the fence.

However I very much disagree with you comment that...

"Execution... serves no purpose in terms of deterrence."

Come off it!! You reckon that the fact they havent backed down even under international pressure, and still executed this guy, that it doesnt act as a deterrance!!! No way!!!

maybe but i still stand by the death penalty even if it was me or family sentenced to death. its quite interesting but the other thing is by killing these people it saves a lot of tax payers money. can you imagine how much is spent on a prisoner lets say if they spend 30 years. think of the security, the tvs, xboxes, heated swimming pools, top class gyms ,good food, education so the total cost is enormous. some people who pay the taxs can not even afford a life like that. so in short its a cost cutting measure.

longlive the death penalty

I don't agree, people take drugs of their own free will, how the hell was he ruining their lifes, if they weren't demanding it he wouldn't have been smuggling it.
